Group thoughts?

Hey, thinking about making a bid here, just wondering what all our resident WIS think of this one:?

I hear ya, but are there reliability issues with that model? I really prefer the smaller 36 mm size and the 14790 never seem to show up

If you want something smaller, try the new 37mm 15450. I'd stay away from that auction

So I'm hearing two things:

eBay sucks
No one around here likes the older APs.

On the eBay side, any reasons? Too many scams?

On the watch selection, is it because everyone just likes bigger APs? Or are there actual issues with watches from the 1990's?

Prob is, the 15450 doesn't come with a black dial, and

...even the white ones never seem to show up for sale on this site. Any other recommended sources?

Just buy from a TRF trusted seller if price is a main concern.

You're better off looking somewhere besides eBay.

Jeepman, I am going to disagree with the populous. I'm befuddled how some of these guys here still see ebay as being this ominous evil being.... It consists of INDIVIDUALS, good and bad. Since ebay leans towards the buyer as much as it does, you're safe assuming you use paypal to ensure buyer's protection. I have dealt with these sellers in the past, and they're legit. Mind you, they're in Tel Aviv, so make sure you are ready to deal with US customs in case they decide to inspect.

Greg is of course right... there are many legit sellers on eBay. Statistically there are probably more GGs than BGs but having been burned, as a seller and buyer, I'm loath to pick up anything but small things anymore. Even though my good transactions far outweigh the bad, peace of mind is too important to me.

What the heck, might as well try, right? And as you say, I'll use paypal the whole way and if I'm not happy, I know going in that there is a process (albeit a crappy one) to rectify the situation.

And the seller has a 14 day return policy, so that gives a little piece of mind.

I am a purist so any Royal Oak for me needs to be 39mm. Also check my thread on Things to Consider Before Buying an AP.

Hmmm. I don't bash ebay as I have purchased a lot of items off there including watches. Remember to buy the seller. This seller does look like they have a great feedback record and a lot of feedback at that to help vouch.

Now the watch itself... Is your money better spent elsewhere? Maybe a newer piece, something a little cleaner... I would personally save a bit and go newer. Oh and the size would be an issue. Keep in mind resale value... The less desireable now, the less desireable down the road.

Good luck with whatever decision you make.

My opinion the size is great. Makes the piece unique. And the current trend towards bigger and bigger watches won't last forever...

Well I bought it, and so far loving it. Keeps great time, and the size is perfect for tight cuffs and suits. I have plenty of larger options with an omega and an exp II, so I'm gonna love this as my suit watch for a while. Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1370533791.280465.jpg

+1000000.

It's very difficult for a bad seller to hide on eBay.

Make sure you check the feedback and you will be fine.

Paying through PayPal also gives you 100% protection and peace of mind.

Well done, but usually buying from not your home country is very risky, you really should only do collection even then, as even with paypal protection there are many scams that can still be done with watches. For example theres a Diver on ebay now which is a clear fake but the guy has a Marcus receipt so ebay haven't pulled the listing despite tons of reports. If anyone is bidding on a UK Diver right now - stop!

Can someone educate me on why the 39mm is the "true" royal oak? Seems to me, the 39mm is called the jumbo which sorta implies the smaller one would be the "normal" one. No?
