A quick question before I take the plunge!

I'm about to buy my dream watch, the 116200 (used) and had a quick question before I buy. The description reads "Z serial, purchased September 2012", and was just wondering exactly what the Z serial means? It's pre-owned but is described as being in "like new" condition, and the pics look great. They're asking just under 5k wired. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

The Z indicates the approximate date the case was made, in this instance 2007... It is not unusual for a Rolex to sit in a display case for many years... The price seems in line with the year & described condition...

Good choice! I always commend folks for not buying a Sub, GMT, Exp2. Especially the Sub. Be different!

Thanks guys! I also noticed the particular watch I'm looking at doesn't have those black marks on the side that are often blurred out in photos like this one, what are those markings??

The marking on the inner bezel, the rehaut, would be the serial number for the watch. That's where it's located, instead of on the side of the case on older watches.

The blurred out (Blue) marking in the photo, is simply a barcode on a sticker...
These are to be removed, and hold no public information worthy of the secrecy shown. They are just inventory stickers from Rolex!!

Just an inventory control feature. Nothing for the WIS or public at large.

It was a decision between the white dial and the rhodium dial (both roman numeral), but the rhodium won out. I love the look of the silver on silver. I'll be getting a diamond bezel for it as well (which is why I'm not buying it new).

The one on the right is what it'll eventually look like.

I like silver dials. I'd advise against an aftermarket bezel for water resistance reasons. You may want to consider how it may impact your depth rating. Maybe a WG fluted bezel DJ perhaps? Just a suggestion.

Regardless, nice choice!

Does that affect your watch only if you go underwater with it? Because I plan on never wearing mine in wet conditions lol

Just wondering why would you want a diamond bezel. Seems to bling bling! Anyway congrats on getting your first rolex!

Some folks like diamonds...some don't.

Nice choice, a classical yet beautiful example of the datejust congratulations. A friend of mine has the exact same one with a diamond bezel and it looks gorgeous. Enjoy it!

If its not done well it could get moisture in it from just washing your hands. I can't see why you'd want an oyster cased Rolex only to compromise one of its main features. That's what I love about Rolex; the fact you can wear it with a suit at dinner and snorkeling the next day.

I'm just getting it because it's my favorite style they make. I've never been diving before lol

Okay, it's your watch, do what you like, I'm not saying otherwise. I just want you to know that aftermarket parts, especially a bezel could allow water to get inside. Get it pressure tested.

Definitely will take your advice and get it pressure tested, I wouldn't want to run into any problems down the line =/
