Rolex DJ 16014

I wake up yesterday to my watch no longer ticking! Winding it does nothing, and swirling it to move the rotor will advance the second hand a few seconds; then nothing.
Ive been told that the main spring has likely broken in the 3035.

Has anyone experienced this before?
Ive been quoted $100CDN to replace it; if it is actually the mainspring.

Thanks

Sounds like a trip to your watchmaker. If it hasn't been serviced in 5 years or so, it's due anyway. Good luck with it.

I don't want to get technical, but according to chemistry alcohol IS a solution!

As AL said I would have it completely serviced. Changing the mainspring by itself will only buy you some time before the next service is due anyway.

Never happened to me, that issue.

Better send it to RSC asap.

Pics from after the service would be nice!

I just had a watchmaker diagnose it. As expected the mainspring had broken in half. This also caused one of the pins on the third wheel to break off in the jewel.

Guy was great -- let me stand and watch everything he was doing. It was very educational!

Charged me $160 - however, I need to wait for two weeks for the new third wheel to come in from L.A; he replaced the spring very quickly.

The watch was last serviced in Feb 2006; very well according to my new guy.

Its just too bad that I'll have a long two weeks. On the other hand, it does bring peace of mind that I feel comfortable trusting this new guy. He even buffed the watch and crystal free of charge.

If anyone is interested I would recommend 'The German Watchmaker' Norbert Zerbes in Yaletown, downtown Vancouver. Very nice gentlemen.

Thank you for the recommendation, I will definitely remember him for any possible future problems with my watches.

Glad to hear that you found somebody very helpful to service your watch. Yeah, when the spring breaks, the oscillator cannot wind the mainspring so your watch receives no power to it even if the oscillator spins. I guess there is a chance for it to happen with time and as the mainspring begins to wear.

Don't worry, before you know it, two weeks will be up and you will be reunited with your with your beautiful DJ.
