A Rolex running fast?

Hi,

I am happy owner of a Rolex GMT Master 2, which I bought around 5 years ago. I never paid too much attention, but I realized it was always a bit fast, like 5-10 seconds. I never fully analyzed, but if I don't correct it accumlates to over one minute over time.

I live in Korea, Seoul, so I went to a local Rolex shop, where the sales guy and the rest of the team insisted that this was normal for a mechanical watch. He literally said "they can never run 100% precisely, you misunderstand what is a Rolex". I got so angry, that I left the shop, but when I went to the Rolex homepage I couldn't find any way to contact them and complain about the shop.

I mean has anyone EVER heard of something like this? How can I fix my watch and then also get these guys fired? Am I missing something here?

Well he is correct no purely mechanical watch any brand or any price will keep 100% perfect time close yes but perfect no.Now Rolex watches are tested at the Swiss COSC and the specification for when tested is that the movement performed to a AVERAGE of between -4 to + 6 seconds over any 24 hour period to pass the test. Now to test any movement for accuracy first fully manually wind the Rolex watch 40 full crown turns clockwise only.Next sync Rolex with a reliable time source for this test a quartz watch will do.Next wear Rolex as normal but for 8 hours plus a day.Check time once daily with the same setting time source over 5 days. Then average out the lost or gain over the 5 days if its over the COSC spec Average -4 to +6 seconds then have watch regulated. But watch will soon need a full service if over 5 years old of wearing.

Are you serious?

Before accusing people of giving you misinformation and trying to get them fired you should perhaps research what COSC certification actually means.

You are very much in the wrong.

No watch or clock will ever keep perfect time.

The AD was correct,if you are looking for more accuracy in a watch maybe you should consider a quartz.

Bring it to rolex service center to have it regulated. They will do it happily for you. My dssd was running slow -2 per day, i asked them to have it regulated preferrebly fast +2, it came back running spot on +/- 0!

Also, considering your watch is 5 yrs old, it may need servicing too.

Edit: after re reading your post completely instead of just a glance before at the 1st or 2nd paragraph, why would you want to get those salespeople fired? That is not nice.

Just have it regulated.

Also when you take your watch off at night, there are positions to leave it which will slow it down or speed it up to keep more accurate time.

Best of luck and welcome to the forum.
