Buying almost new Pam w/o box...thoughts??

I have a trusted jeweler that has a Pam210 that I just love for a great price, but he doesn't have the box. Being a newbie, how bad does this kill my resale value? I believe he has the other documentation. And I am getting a great price from what I can tell.

Insight and opinions greatly appreciated in advance.

You'll definitely get less when you try to resell it, how much less depends on the demand for that particular model and who/where you are trying to sell it to. If you plan on keeping it for a few years if say go ahead and buy it if the price is spectacular but if you think it'll be a catch and release or a fairly quick flip I say pass. Btw, papers missing are the bigger deal, boxes (at least pear wood and black cardboard) can be bought here and on Paneristi for a few hundred dollars.

I personally would always want to buy with box and papers.

If it is a great price ... I would not worry too much ... Then you should be able to get back what you paid ... In case you want to sell or trade one day.

210 is a great looking watch IMO

It's all about the price you get and if you trust dealer is legit!

Box + papers should decrease value by at least $500-600.

For PAMs, having documentation is important; as the fake PAMs are getting better and better. Having the box is less important. If you trust the seller, then this should not be a problem as far as the authenticity of the watch goes. Reselling might be a problem without papers, though.

I personally never buy watches that comes without a box, and more importantly the paperwork.

Since we're on the subject... How difficult would it be to forge some fake papers and tags? Have they tried to push any rep. watches with fake docs yet?

Papers are a must, imho. I would buy a PAM w/papers and w/o box - if the price is right. I will never buy a PAM w/o papers, forget it. As mentioned above, the "replicas" (not the cheesy fakes) are so accurate that you need to send the serial & series numbers to OP just to verify it's the real deal. As for the paperwork being forged; sure, everything's possible but since it's a trusted [grey?] dealer, he/she hopefully did some kind of research before accepting the watch. It's very hard to believe that a formal AD lost the box to a watch, though...

The 210 in EU goes for €4.7K so <€4K would do it for me.

My concern with no papers or box is that it was stolen. I'd personally stay away.

For the 210 as an entry level PAM pricepoint, I think you are relatively safe(r). If the price offered is reasonable, then go for it. Besides, the 210 is on my top 3 favourite PAMS insofar as bang for your buck. Looks great! And pretty easy to flip with or without the box/papers.

I'd probably wouldn't worry about the box and papers if you are paying a good price for it. At the end of the day, always buy the seller IMO.

Flipping it without box and papers might be a little tough.

I'm not quite sure how difficult it is to forge papers and tags, but I've seen counterfeits with full box and papers even with matching serials. Pretty scary I must say.

Speaking for myself:
I'd want the box, papers, screwdriver, cloth Etc. the panerai package is worth more than a watch only.
The peripheral items benefit resale tremendously and are integral to one's collection.

Icon6 From a trusted reputable seller with high end sale/trade references only

I did it for a 176J and it worked out just fine. Price was well adjusted for lack of boxes and papers.

I bought my PAM 24 without box and papers. I got it for about half price so I jumped on it.

I would say flipping it would be very tough to the average person. They will want the B&P.

PM me and I can give you the details.
