Forged Carbon Diver back from Clearwater

Hello All!

I had the great fortune of acquiring my Forged Carbon Diver from one of our trusted dealers on TRF in late March, and if you saw it in person I think you'd agree with me that it is a fantastic look piece, quite different from most Offshores in a number of ways.

Already in the short amount of time I've had it, we've already had some adventures together, but unfortunately it had to take a solo trip to APSC in Clearwater as well.

At first I thought I was going crazy...perhaps I wave my hands/fist pump too frantically at concerts I wore it to or whatnot, but I noticed that my Diver kept gaining time. Sometimes a minute or two overnight. (I always sync my watches to the clock inside my iPhone to see how accurately they keep time)

Although it was a new watch, I was a little cautious and sent it over to Betsy at APSC. Although they told me that it would take a little over a month to service, lo and behold, like my last Diver I had serviced (my Steel had to get a crown replacement) the return time was much shorter than expected. I believe my watch came back within 3 weeks. Exceptional service I'd say.

APSC's explanation was: "The watchmaker noted that the watch was rebanking. This means that the movement had too much power which caused it to run fast. The mainspring was replaced for a weaker one in order to resolve the issue."

Congrats on getting your Diver back!

Funny you mention the "rebanking". I sometimes set my watches to time.gov when I put them on and then check how much time they have gained or lost when I change to the next watch in my rotation.

When I was recently on my honeymoon I noticed my diver gaining 20-30 seconds a day, very unusual bc its usually only + a couple seconds here or there when worn at home and is spot on when timed over a 24 hour period not being worn. This time gain happened daily over my 3 week trip. I figured I might send it in when I got home if it really bothered me.

When I got home and tested it again it had somehow returned to the regular accuracy. I chalked it up to the excessive walking we did on the trip (usually 8+ miles per day). Figured it was overwinding the main spring and causing it to run a little fast. Good to know they can replace the mainspring with a weaker one if you are very active while wearing the watch.

i have this same problem.

it runs near perfect while not moving, but gains 20 seconds a day on the wrist or on a winder

in regards to this, I think it's safe to say most watches gain a little time during wear, but depending on how you rest it at night, it might lose a little or settle down. walking 8 miles a day will probably do it.

but if you think it's gaining it excessively, I'd definitely give AP a ring and see if they can service it for you. You might as well get the 3rd year warranty deal done while you're at it right?

Teddy-my CF Diver gained time while it was not moving. I'd wake up to it gaining more than 20 seconds... eek.

either way, I'll report my findings in the coming days as far as how it runs now that the spring has been replaced

Great watch! I've only seen banking issues in old watches retrofitted with a newer (incorrect) mainspring. I'm surprised this could be an issue in a current mvmt like the 3120.

Yes I am surprised to hear this is happening in the 3120. Maybe a one off but not over a sample of mvmnts. Shouldn't happen at all. As Mike said, it will occur with the wrong mainspring and that is something I can't imagine AP doing in large runs of the 3120. I hike 10+ miles several times a week during the summer with all my watches and I have never noticed any of them gaining time. This includes my now gone Diver, a 44 ROO, a Safari etc.

Good to hear that APSC solved your issue and they can also tell the reason, that's why they can keep a premier brand image and price tag as well, wear it in good health, cheers mate

How's the watch running now since this has been over a month?

I'm also having this issue with a G series ROO Navy. It gains 10+ seconds overnight unworn and about 1.5 minutes a day when worn. Work requires me to be quite active so the watch should be fully wound all the time.

What effect, if any, does replacing the mainspring with a weaker one have on the power reserve?

Looking very sharp indeed. Don't know why all of the running fast issues. Wish they would get their qc act together before leaving the AP motherland in Switzerland. One thing though, AP service is spot on in Clearwater. Always seem to return in fair time. Although having one away at spa is never fun.

I have a steel diver and I also had the same problem. 10 days at AP UK and all was sorted. Their service was excellent. Watch now is working like a charm.

I've observed it runs about 3-5 seconds slow now a day. Not bad.

Mine seems to lose 1-2 secs on winder. While on my wrist/wearing it for almost a day, seems to be accurate... So happy....

Well depending on how I lay it to rest it can gain 2/3 secs a day, but yes on wrist it doesn't seem to gain perhaps 2 or 3 sec slow a day, not bad!

So assuming you take it off when you're asleep it is pretty much bang on the money?
