How it happend. and Why
New to me '87 18k/SS Datejust 16013. Thought I wanted a SS/WG DJ but didn't want to mix metals with 14K wedding band. Decided I wanted SS/18K watch. Thought maybe I should get a sports model, loved the looks of the two tone black face Submariner, still do. Went to AD, didn't like any sports model, tried two tone Datejust, loved it. They wanted 10k, too much for me, knew I wanted a pre-owned anway. Really liked the super jubilee bracelet, heavy in a good way. A used 116233 was still too much for me at 6k. So it was 1603, 16013 or 16233. Had to sort movements, crystal, condition and "extras with sale" i.e. papers, box, warranty etc... Nothing bad could be said about any of the movements really. However my interpretation was the oldest movements might be running out of spare parts the soonest and the 3035 vs. 3135, balance cock vs. balance bridge. I liked that the acrylic crystal wouldn't shatter, it's easy to shine, cheaper to replace if needed In the cock vs. bridge department, I preferred the ascetics of the former and though the negative space in the case was pleasing and decided what it lacked in length it made up for in girth.
Was unlucky scouring TRF an other watch forum classifieds sections, which would be more successful if a database would be added to refine searches. I found and purchased my watch from Capetown Diamond Corp. from their Chrono24 listing. Reviews on this company were mixed, I give similar. Answered question from C24 within 20 mins, didn't reply to my response for more detailed pics of bracelet. Called and got immediate service, very friendly as well. Wired funds on Friday, received Tuesday. Very happy with the watch. Listed condition was mint and I would have to agree. Special watch to me as it was given as a wedding present from Mrs. It will be my daily wearer from here on out. It is replacing my Vostok unknown model or ref., which is a relief because it needs a slipping mainspring repaired and only holds a 8 hr.-ish "charge", so it needs to be set daily, which isn't that much of a pain anyway. It is a manual winding, $35 eBay special from a 'stan several years ago that came head only and has held up very well to a beating minus the mainspring being overwound... Only other pony in the stable is my Casio 'Wrist Remote', which never gets worn because it pulls my wrist hair out, but its neat in its own way, much like the Accutron space watch which is on my list as well as any with the Zenith El Primero movement. I'm going with dark brown gator for daily wear and occasionally switch back to bracelet. Also included the the "Rolex x Go Fast"; 02' HD V-Rod. |
