No Date Sapphire Crystal GMT Master II
Anyone ever seen a GMT Master II with out the Date Cyclops? Would anyone know if a Sapphire Crystal from a 90s model Sea Dweller would work on this watch? I know the cases are different, but they are both 40mm cases, so...
Thanks! |

The cyclops can easily be removed with a bit of heat from any Rolex watch its only stuck on the crystal.

If you go to youtube.com and search on "removing Rolex cyclops" you will get many how to. You could also purchase a generic non cyclops crystal and then have it installed and keep you original crystal with the watch.

I am having a new bezel, and blue insert installed soon. I will just buy the new non date crystal as well. This way I can put it back to "stock" in case I ever sell it.
Thanks for the input! |

I had a watchmaker remove one on a sub once. The warning / risk was damage to the sapphire. Also if you send it to RSC you will have to buy a new one.

Here's a GMTllc without the cyclops. Notice it has an AR coating under the cyclops and still present in this photo which is something else, but easily remove.

Earlier non-AR crystals will fit..
The SD crystal will not fit, it is a different size..

Just don't remove the cyclops from a crystal that has AR under the cyclops.

Just remove the cyclops. It's 10,000 times easier than fitting a new crystal. Save the cyclops when it's removed and you can glue it back on later.

Thanks for all of the input. I finally found a new Sapphire Crystal with out the Cyclops. I am just going to buy it, and keep my original along with the original Bezel assembly to put back on if I ever sale the watch.Plus this way, if I hate it, I can just re install the old parts! No Harm Done.
I will post pics when complete. |
