SMP GMT Great White
Hello all...I'm just looking for some info/feedback on my SMP GMT white dial, known as the Great White. I bought it new in 2001 in Montreal and have kept it minty.
Is this a "rare" piece and if so why? I have no intention of selling b/c of sentimental value but I'd like to learn more about it, the lure, etc. I stumbled across the nickname on the net and now I'm curious. Do I have a gem here? Thanks in advance for any info.

I don't know that I'd call it "rare" but they have been creeping up in price on the used market and seem a bit more sought after than the black dial anniversary model with the black/silver bezel. I believe there were fewer of the great whites produced.

it is not rare per se but it is rarer than the black dial model :) it is more sought after, though sadly used Omega prices are generally not too good so even sought after does not mean huge premiums...but I own its black dial brother, and I can tell you that you have a gem for sure. by far

here's mine under a warm tropical sun - Not too many in this corner of the world - but I think most collectors here will prefer the polar exp2; nonetheless it is a beautiful watch.

I think it's one of Omega's best watches.

I wish they still produced it.

I've owned both the white and black dialed models.
Bought and sold both within a year of each other...Both within the past two years. I purchased them for almost the same amount, and my experience when I sold them was that they brought within fifty dollars of each other in comparable condition. |

Me too. The new PO GMT is a looker but at $8k sure isn't easy on the wallet. I liked omega before they went and jumped up the price bracket.

I think the dial is beautiful, but really dislike the bezel font. For some reason, it doesn't seem on par with the watches great quality and looks.
