First Rolex. Lil nervous on first choice!
Hello gents & fine ladies of this board!
I've decided my first Rolex to be a DateJust II. When I first read about the new 41mm size last year, it really caught my eye and I knew that would be my first Rolex because I love big size watches! It's just so eye popping, trendy and awesome! Today was my first visit to my local AD, I was warmly greeted and welcomed by the sales lady. Very helpful by showing me the selection and variations. Overwhelmed because it seems like any thing I choose wouldn't be a bad choice because they're all so beautiful. BUT I want to choose my first to be something I REALLY love.. Amazingly enough I got a good discount and I thought was a good deal, so I put I deposit down and have to make a decision come Friday when the watch comes in. I've narrowed it down to 4 choices. -Smooth bezel Blue dial with Sticks because the dark blue looks amazing -Smooth bezel Blue dial with Romans -Fluted bezel Blue " -Fluted bezel Blue " Honestly I'm having a dilemma if I should go fluted/smooth too because it's just so eye popping and has that classic Rolex look shine. But then the smooth has that NEW age modern look. And the sales lady highly recommends the smooth bezel on me compared to the fluted as she say it 'suits' me more, which I do agree but the fluted just pops and screams! Would sticks be okay for formal/dressy occasions? Ideally I want something to wear both for casual and dressy, jeans and a suit. Which would work best for that. Sticks or Romans? Thanks in advance! |

Don't over think it.
All of your choices would suit similar circumstances similarly well, in my opinion. My personal choice would be sticks and fluted (the blue on the stick model is also nicer to me). Go with whatever takes your fancy. No wrong choice! |

Blue dial with sticks for sure.
The deeper sunburst dial looks amazing. I like both bezel options, and no matter which one you choose - either can be dress or casual. |

Either look is just classic. I would go fluted sticks myself but it's not going to be a huge difference either way. The watch shines like a beacon in any style. Enjoy.

I have tried a lot of them on recently as I toy with the idea of getting a DJ next.
For me it is smooth bezel only. I am torn between Blue Stick and Blue Roman but I think I am leaning towards Blue Stick. I think the Blue Roman is great but maybe a little more formal looking than I would like. I think the Blue Stick just looks a little more casual. |

welcome!
blue sticks is my favorite DJII dial. as for fluted or smooth, that's a tough one. the fluted is very sparkly and noticeable, but, it's also very nice. the smooth is more subtle. you can't lose either way. good luck and post some pix of the new watch. |

I've only been interested in the Rolex sport models, but lately the DJ2 smooth bezel and blue stick dial has really been calling me.

Congratulations and welcome to TRF. As to your choices I'd go blue dial probably with Romans with the more subdued smooth bezel.

Sticks & fluted bezel. It will be fine formal or sporty.

I also vote fluted blue stick dial. That was my second choice over the fluted rhodium arabic dial I wanted more.

Stick and fluted. The light really reflects light like magic on the fluted bezel

The blue dial is really superb so good choice. The sticks are classic Rolex IMO as is the fluted bezel. I prefer the fluted personally, and it will not show the inevitable scratches like the smooth will. But, as you know from poking around TRF you must go with your heart. Get the one that knocks your socks off when you put it on. And like many of us here, 5 or 10 knock our socks off, so we just keep acquiring new ones...lol. Congrats and good luck.

In my mind there are three differences to consider:
1) Shade of blue 2) Bezel 3) Weight The roman and stick blues are very different colors. I highly prefer the color of the stick dial, it is dark and more rich. The obvious difference is the bezel. I own a DJII and let me tell you, the fluted bezel sparkles A LOT. The fluted bezel model will also have gold on it which will make it slightly heavier. I prefer lighter watches, due to more comfort. Having said all this, I would choose the fluted stick. I love the color of the blue with the stick dial and like the sparkle of the bezel. Post pics when you make your decision. Congrats in advance.
