I am no expert. I suspect this is not a Rolex. It certainly isn't any variety of oyster, especially a bombe. I have owned several Gruens with this case shape. Here's an item number on eBay to take a look at. Dial repainting is always available. I once had the IWC "ingenieur" symbol painted on a Tudor dial for a custom project. Not a huge stretch. 300926374474

Ok I have had time to look this up for you. A pic of the back would have helped as I would have known its a non oyster, anyway it's not a bombe as i originally thought from memory alone it is a Dennison case. 1940-1959's. Yes some call that type Sabre or flared lugs and yes Dennison UK made cases for several brands at this time both in SS and gold.

Ok where getting somewhere now, a little more digging now we have identified the case style in one book onto the next, this does belong to a group of watches referred to as having flared lugs there are a few variations, these specific lugs are referred to as "Sabre Lugs" it has a case shape called a 'Circular case' in style (34x41mms) subsidiary seconds display, White metal leaf hands. Nickel plated Rolex manual wind 15 movement.
Model ref. 4498 looks the closest to yours but I cannot find that exact dial I hope this helps.

Not sure of the exact money worth in todays market but we are not talking vintage sports watch Rolex money.

Don't know about the per-oyster thing Not all Rolexes from that time were in oyster cases.
