Can I wash my Datejust
I know the datejust is waterproof, I wear mine on a daily basis, its gold and SS. Should I wash it in water and some sort of mile soap or should I just polish it? Any comments would be grateful

Yes, you can, Louisa.
Just use lukewarm water and some mild, liquid handwashing soap. But make sure that the crown is screwed completely down before washing it and wait a couple of hours AFTER you have washed it before unscrewin the crown since even though you dry it in a cotton towel there just might sit a little water at the crown. I would avoid polishing it too much. When you are wearing your watch, dust and dirt will collect on the "film" that is builded up by body grease and smudge. If you just polish over that, the mixture of dirt/dust and fat will act as "sandpaper" literally grinding away the fine lustre of your Rolex. So it is much better just washing it, say once a week.

Just put in your dish washer. And, make sure you add Jet Dry, so it won't leave water spot on your watch.

Ignore Alexander, but heck yes, you can wash it! My wife's Rosie DJ is getting the same treatment I gave Bluesy today and documented here:

Wash That Rolex!!!
i say, wash your rolex in the shower, using a CLEAR, high quality shampoo, with a soft sponge(for showering). Bo, is right. Crown screwed down tight! And I wash mine daily, or weekly as the spirit moves......my watches look brand new, cause they're clean and not all scratched up, like Bo's!
best, dan (nah, on second thought, better listen to Bo, he knows more about Rolex than I ever will) |

I wash mine once a week using a toothbrush and hand soap. The tooth brush really brings the luster back.

Yeah, you should see how long it takes me to wash my 3-year-old son with that toothbrush and bowl of ammonia water!

For some reason, they say that the term "waterproof" should not be used when discussing about watches. Instead, the terms "water resistant" and "pressure proof" are used instead. Your DJ was tested to be guaranteed pressure proof to a depth of 100 meters/330 feet as long as the crown is screwed in. So it is completely fine to wash your DJ in running water. If its pressure proof to 100 meters, splashing it with water will not do any harm to it at all. Just always check and make sure that the crown is completely screwed in (but not too tight) before exposing the watch to anything water related.
