too good to pass up?

So, I am killing time in Shreve today waiting for a watch to be pressure tested a few stores over...I'm wearing my 372 and I ask to try on a couple of watches including a PAM 25...the salesman (also sporting a 25) says, "hold on, I've got a great deal for you." Knowing Shreve doesn't negotiate I have my doubts...but he walks back with a brand new (though M series) 305 and says that they are offering the watch at 30% off. I was flabbergasted...what do you think? Buy it?

The PAM 305 being 47mm in a 1950 case won't look as big as other Luminor's that are 47mm.

The 44mm Submersible's look smaller due to the large bezel. IMHO this watch is beautiful since it is an updated Sub, beautiful dial.....and since the Shiny Bezel subs went away after the "C" series...this has a look that is unique.

30% off is a good price.

He also offered to throw in any strap I wanted (though I'd have to wait until their shipment came in). I asked if he could do a 26mm gold JV and he said, "yes, no problem."

iv purchased watches from shreve before. Generally they discount after it has been sitting around the store for a long time.

Exactly...this was an M series; I assume that N and O series watches are already out for this model hence the discount. 30% still seemed pretty good to me.

Awesome! I'd take a 305 over a 25 any day (only a mint 243J would trump a 305) and at 30% ... with a JV-strap thrown into the deal, it's win-win

Wirstshots expected soonest

That's a grrrrreat deal! Whether a great deal is enough to pull the trigger regardless of the watch, only you can judge.

That's a great deal... and a free JV strap to go with it makes it even more insane. Do it before they change their mind!

You know what I love about your posts? You're so Fluent in Paneraispeak.

It just rolls off your tongue I'm sure, like one of the romance languages.
Cheers!

30% is a great deal. You'd be getting BNIB for what preowned are going for.
Buy it if you really like it, not just for the price though.
I can say I absolutely LOVE the 305. My favorite of any Panerai Sub.

Thanks guys!!!

One question: when the pendulum in the watch is moving I can hear it winding the watch; is that normal? I'm used to Rolex which is silent...

Perfectly normal and you know it's working when you hear it.

Thanks for confirming the sound was normal. A little more research describes the sound as a possible natural byproduct of the ratcheting mechanism that allows bi-directional winding; it is thought this also explains why the rotor doesn't appear to always swing freely. Anyway, I'll keep track of the PR and accuracy of the watch. If they aren't what I expect I'll bring the watch in for service...that's the nice thing about warranties.

i've had a 305 since they first came out 3 years ago, the best part is the titanium keeps darkening and ends up almost pencil grey
