Hi Everyone,

Can anyone lend me some tips on how to photograph the Laser etched logo? I've tried and failed, its hard enough trying to see it without using some coloured torch.

I use a bright white spotlight from the side and manual focus, it works for me.

What does the 'S' signify on the bottom of the crown?

I was told the "S" is for Rolex "S"ervice Part. Means it has been replaced and is not original to the watch.

Yep... "S" means not original to the watch.

It's hard to get it just right but ill give Jockes suggestion a try.

I read somewhere that the crown "dots" on the newer models are etched at different depths in the crystal to make it harder to copy.

This will show the crown correct when viewed straight on but slightly off when viewed from either side.

This would make it hard to get a good focus on all of the dots at the same time and might be why it is so hard to photograph.

Use oblique lighting. I used a green laser pointer in a dark room, with my camera on a tripod at 90 degrees to the watch crystal of my new Sub LV.

Using a macro lens, I worked the focus until the engraved crown was evident and then set the auto focus to manual, to avoid the focus jumping all around as the position of the light changed.
