Day to day Carbon AP
Had the damn AP Bumblebee on my mind for too long now & looking to quash this feeling but with only SS Rolex in house at the moment concerned about how the Carbon case fares on a daily worn basis (or regular at least) & in the event of dings what are the service possibilities on making good the scars

Isn't the carbon case very hard?

FightOnSC posted an awesome thread on day to day wear of his FC Diver. His assessment was that the resilience of the FC has made that watch more or so his daily because it's so flexible and can handle day to bumps and scrapes without any signs of it(paraphrasing).
The FC Diver is my grail right now. From what I understand the case isn't overly expensive to replace. Mike(Kilyung) had gotten a quote I believe and it was less than $2k iirc. http://rolexforums.com/showthread.ph...d+carbon+diver |

IIRC, in terms of scratch resistance, it's between SS and ceramic, but, due to the appearance of the material, the scratches will blend in and not be noticeable. with respect to impact resistance, it is more resiliant than ceramic, but, i'm not sure how it compares to SS (about the same?).
personally, i like everything about FC, from the technology to its strengths to its appearance. |

I wear my carbon pretty much 3 days a week and it's great, best part is the case hides almost anything!

I am sure he'll chime in soon, but if I remember Mike's comment, the case is cheaper (by a decent margin) than the ceramic bezel to replace should that be necessary
(unlikely as it might be).

I wear my FC 44mm sometimes 5 days in a row and it is as tough as nails. I also wear it when I fly long distance, and it doesn't have 1 scratch on it yet. FC is just amazing IMHO.

It's ridiculous how nice FC works as a daily watch. Any dings aren't very visible but if you want the case can be replaced for under $2k.

Can I add another question? How do the sharp edges of the ceramic bezel take the daily beating?

Yup, it's an almost ideal day-to-day material for watch cases due to pretty much all the reasons already cited. Not only is it resistant to dings, scuffs and scratches, should they occur, they're almost impossible to see.
Now, it's true that forged carbon cannot be refinished, which means that you're stuck replacing the entire case should you decide that the wear has become too much for you to bear any longer, but as noted, the cost for such a maneuver is less than you'd expect (personally, I suspect that AP is subsidizing the cost to make up for lack of refinishing options, but don't quote me on that). As for real-world experience, all I can say is that my FC Diver still looks indistinquishable from brand new, and that's after numerous trips to the beach, the playground (with the kids), the pool, etc. Honestly, I can't get enough of this watch. (I love how how shimmers in the sunlight!) Regards, Adam PS - Unless you're routinely scraping your bezel against crushed diamonds or pounding railroad ties with it, the ceramic will remain unblemished. |

Had my 44FC for a while now...honestly I might wear it 5 of 7 days on average...
I don't see any signs of wear and I love it. Tons of wrist presence and its super light and comfortable on. Proceed with confidence and get the Bee! |

All depends which forged carbon AP we are talking about, in terms of replacement and wear.
The team alinghi and grand prix tend to show more wear on the bezel than the others due to no ceramic bezel. I wore my bee daily for 2 months basically and it still looked BRAND NEW. My grand prix I then started to wear, besides for the normal wear when I got it (was like new) and the forged carbon weave/look which made the bezel look more worn than it was, it was also very resilient . I banged the grand prix bezel pretty hard and the only mark was paint on top of the wood table on the bezel. No crack or anything, and people have been very worried about the vented carbon bezel sustaining hits.. Either way, IMO, it is the PERFECT daily watch… and has so much character/comfort/style :) |

Sorry Mike, I meant the ceramic bezel itself (whether the edges would chip and so on) ... Adam answered above.

I do have a very small and minor surface issue near the crown. How it happened I don't know. It's a pretty tough area to hit during daily wear but the grain hides it. It's my daily watch that gets put through the paces so I'm not in a rush to get a case replacement yet. In all I wear it with confidence everywhere, I consider this a fluke.
I've definitely banged FC on things pretty hard and came out unscathed. It's tough. |

I wear my bee almost daily and work in the automotive industry. I even wrench wearing it.
I have banged this poor thing on everything you can imagine and it still looks perfect. Coupled with a diver or survivor strap and I'm hard pressed to remove this thing from my wrist :) |

Insure it! I think the schumi is my one non FC watch I'd feel comfortable to go HAM wearing. If what you tell me about titanium is true!
Once it's back from Clearwater I'm taking her there to watch an away game at Legasse's at Palazzo. |

Lets be honest: last year sucked for both of us, especially on the defensive side of the ball. I wish I could be in Vegas but work in Japan is calling. First gotta fly home from Bora Bora tonight first. |

Carbon is probably the safest material for everyday use as it doesn't shows scratches that easy.

It's the watch that first attracted me to the Bee along with the FC Diver. See the family resemblance? |
