Does anyone else do this?

For the week I've been sitting in a large auditorium, slapped for 8 hours a day with power point presentations. There is a large digital clock at the front of the auditorium so you can accurately see how long you've been bored to death. I cannot count how many times I match the digital time with my SD and marvel at its DEADLY accuracy, everyday.

Am I alone in my "gold-fish" mentality, marveled countless times a day?

Nope I was doing the exact same thing today as I compared my Sub and the wall clocks of the Senate and House. The Architect of the Capitol needs to perform a calibration of all their timepieces. My Rolex was spot on, of course.

I do the exact same thing with my DateJust II while staring at the computer. When the computer goes to the next minute, my Rolex is sweeping right across the crown at 12:00 like it should. Happy to know I am not the only one!

I was supposed to head down that way today for a Harvard Law School forum. I didn't feel like the 2 hour drive though. Cool pic you posted in your thread. Rolex has been included in a statue, kinda amazing!

I'm up here TDY for a leadership course put on by the Govt Affairs Institute at
at Georgetown University. For a retired Marine its pretty cool to see how it all supposedly fits together.

Ah yes. Death by Powerpoint. The military is famous for it. Thread hijack but a retired LTC told me a very funny story about briefing Donald Rumsfeld leading up to the invasion of Iraq in 2003. It seems Rumsfeld did not allow acronyms in his briefings so everything had to be spelled out. One LTC who was about to retire anyway used the acronym NATO in his presentation so Rumsfeld stops him cold and says "NATO, what the hell does that mean?" The LTC looks him square in the eyes and says "Sir, you're the only one in the room who has had his job twice so I figured you'd know what that meant". After that, only generals were allowed to brief Rumsfeld.

I usually stab myself in the thigh with my pen when I catch myself nodding during a long meeting. I would never risk glancing at my watch...sure sign that I am no longer focused on the topic.

I freakin hated Navy "symposiums". You'd think they'd learn that hours on end of PPT is not the way to effectively present a topic.
