Anniversary Sub 16610 LV,are Rolex stopping production?
I am currently looking at buying my first Rolex.I am looking to buy a Submariner and really fancy the Anniversary LV edition, although the Blue and Gold has also taken my fancy, but currently more inclined towards the LV.
Question : I have been led to believe by a local AD that Rolex intend stopping production of the LV,is this correct? The dealer concerned had an LV in the window at the time and whether he just wanted me to do the deal there or then went through my mind as to why he would say that. I am not going to be buying anything before May this year however. Any body know anything about this? |

Welcome to TRF enjoy your stay here. As far as i know the LV is still in production. Probably the AD is trying to get rid of the watch.

Thanks for the welcome and the responses, appreciated. Only seen a couple of LV's in dealers,in the past 12 months or so,but the chap I spoke to was just a young loon,he expressed his own surprise at still having the watch, explaining that they had a standard date sub and a SD in at the same time and as usual they had gone with in a matter of days.
just hope that there is one kicking around in May,want to walk in and buy my first, but if not will just need to get from a dealer that a mate uses by mail.Time will tell....coming more and more around to the LV over the Blue. |

The LV is certainly a nice watch.. Definitely not as popular as the Black Sub or the Sea Dweller, but still with a good following.
They are in the Rolex Catalogue for 2008 I have been told. During the Basel show in Allpril I expect any anouncements will be made on new or discontinued models so you don't have long to wait to know.. It is very unlikely that your young salesman actually knows such a thing as fact.

LV is still in production. No change....yet? Seems ADs do not sell LV very much, cause people want the gmt IIc, daytona and Milgauss now.

LV. Here to be continued or gone soon?
Only Rolex knows. An AD will never have that information confirmed until Rolex decides. That will not happen probably until at least Basel. |

I've heard it said that for every LV produced Rolex produces 100 black subs. If you like the watch get the watch regardless of if it will go out of production or not. I received mine in December and love it. I have always been a fan of black subs but I wanted something a bit different. Perhaps come May Rolex will announce that the LV is sticking around but with a ceramic bezel. If you can wait till May then wait. Even if the LV is discontinued there are enough out there that the price won't immediately go up anyway.

The watch going out of production would not be factor that would stop me buying one, if anything I feel it would add to the kudos of the watch, the fact that as an "Anniversary" edition (although production did run rather longer than the anniversary year).would no longer be in production,or is that a tad naive?
Interested to see what comes out of the Basel festival, though, new SD..hmn, maybe a quandry approaching! |

Buy yourself an LV its a great watch. If rolex do release a new SD there will be the initial mad panic with people paying over list. The LV is a celebration of the most iconic rolex. New SD will just be a standard production watch. LV will be a furture collectable for sure.

my ad called me the other day telling me they got a lv and asked if i wanted it. they didn't say any thing about rolex stopping production of them. seems like if she had heard that she would have mentioned it to try and motivate me to buy it. one thing is for sure, rolex is the only one that knows for sure.

Welcome to TRF!
Ever since its introduction in 2003, there has been speculation that it will be discontinued. Some also stated that it was a "limited edition", although it never was. Yes, fewer LV's are made than regular SS Sub Dates, but that is basically it. IMHO, the LV will not be discontinued anytime soon. It has a good place in the Rolex sport's range, and it was ahead of its time already back in 2003, having "Maxi Dial". But no one but Rolex knows what will happen. Maybe we will know more after the Basel Fair in April this year.
