Opinion: 116610 or Pelagos?

I've got the 116610 but have an opportunity to get the Pelagos... Only prob is... one has to go while the other comes in... Is it worth it?? Thanks guys.

"Worth" is a matter of what it means to you, in this situation. Which will you get more enjoyment out of?
I prefer the Sub, but wouldn't mind having both.

I would keep the Submariner. It´s more versatile.

But for you: Get the Pelagos if you want that one more.

The sub is a defining watch for Rolex and will always hold its value, Pelagos looks great but time will tell its value, but as previously noted buy whatever your heart tells you, clearly you are not from the school of Tudor being a poor mans Rolex which is great news because they are not.

Will be interesting to see what Rolex does when Tudor becomes a big hit in the USA. I would hope they start making cool watches for both sides of the family.

Smart car huh? Like the abarth fiat myself. I'm thinking ab just adding one to the collection.... I just don't understand why Rolex never made an OEM rubber strap for the subs. I love the Pelagos strap... How its neatly integrated.

Keep the sub i would not give up any rolex for a tudor.

The SubC was my EDC for a year or so. That being said, I HIGHLY prefer the Pelagos. IMHO, it's the better watch by a wide margin. The only "strengths" the SubC has over the Tudor are bling factor and brand recognition if that kind of thing matters to you.

The Pelagos is a super timepiece with many things the Submariner should have IMHO. Namely a bezel with an amazing ability to be used in the dark, and a clasp that is pretty inovative.

I like the 42mm size and Ti structure.

That said the Submariner has been the benchmark by which other divers have been measured. As mentioned it is the defining Rolex.

Movement debates, features etc.. aside if only one I'd keep the Sub.

I have both and love both.

The death of watch collections is making rushed decisions...I'd keep the sub and save up for the Pelagos. When you have them side by side and can make direct comparisons of how you like them on your wrist long term, then you can decide which one, or both.

Having said that, I saw the Pelagos in the flesh this weekend, wow, pictures do not do it justice.

If you wear business clothes the Sub is a little more dressy while the Tudor is more of a tool watch. For me the Tudor is a better value. I will not be purchasing anymore 40mm watches

Nice opinions so far guys! Thx. What ab resale value, ppl keep telling me if I hold onto the sub it will consistently appreciate. Is this true? I haven't seen this in other brands, except possibly certain AP models/ Pateks. I'm not a bling kind of guy by any means. Quite the opposite actually... @HDHNTER wondering how robust the build feel is on the pelagos, one thing I like ab the sub is it feels bomb proof. Recently had on the PO 8500 and it just felt cheap comparatively. The SELs were loose etc.

I recommend doing the same. As for build quality & robustness, both the SubC & Pelagos are on a level playing field but the Pelagos leaves the SubC in the dust when you factor in design/engineering/execution. It's what the SubC should have been.

I don't like the block hour indicators.

I'm sure you will kick yourself down the line realizing you got rid of a Rolex Sub for a Tudor....then if you try to sell that Tudor you will need a lot more $$ to get that Rolex back.

Save a bit and try to add it to the collection not replace

Handled the Pelagos for the first time yesterday, very impressive, I leaning towards buying one, but could it replace my Submariner (16610LV) ? not imho, although that could change after wearing the Pelagos for a while.

I THINK a lot (but not all) of people delighted by the pelagos have already well trodden the rolex route, both current and vintage and to them the tudor is a breath of fresh air in a toolewellery ridden diver watch world and because of this the no nonsense of the pelagos sings and shouts

but if you're quite new to rolex, then imho you owe it to yourself to gorge at the flash restaurant of the big R before getting off the beaten track and discovering grass roots street food

take your time, the palegos isn't going to become unobtainable any time soon

There's definitely some truth to that but if I was new to the watch scene & looking for my first I would definitely take into consideration the opinions of those who have been there & done that. You owe it to yourself & your wallet to check all of the options out & make an educated decision based on your own findings.. with the nod going to that which sings to you the most.

Also, it would be a mistake to assume those who have owned/wore various Rolex for years are drawn to the Pelagos simply for something fresh & new. The engineering & design aspects of Pelagos stand on their own merits... & they stand tall.
