The thread about properly servicing your watch and taking care of it was beaten to death, so I am hesitant to mention something similar, but here goes...I noticed that some people were concerned that if they sent in their "older" Subs for service that Rolex would replace the original dial with a new one. I just got my 17 y/o Sub serviced for the second time in its well-used life. It came back looking fabulous, it sparkled like it was brand new and there were no scratches. It has only been a couple of days, so I don't know about the accuracy. It was always very accurate. Even thought the lume is dead, they didn't swap the face as some people thought they might. I called and asked about it. They said they wouldn't swap the face as they knew it would "ruin" the watch. So, FWIW, they understand the value, sentimental or otherwise, of keeping the original parts on the watch. Anyway, that was my experience with my recent Sub service.

I believe they'll only swap the dial if it has spider webbing, water damage that could cause the paint to peel and get into the movement.

Golden Bear~ Thanks for sharing your experiance. There seems to be some uncertainty when it come to servicing vintage watches. Good to hear Rolex is concerned about their customers investment and not their service profit.

Golden Bear, so are you going to ask for a dial swap? Perhaps this can be done by a local watchmaker, and you get to keep the original

You know, I'm not sure. I'm never going to sell it, too much sentimental value. So, a slight modification wouldn't bother me. I'd really like to have lume that glows like crazy in the dark. OTOH, I don't want some non-RSC fool playing around with my watch besides, the next time I send it to RSC, it could cause warranty problems. All of the service has been done by the RSC in S.F. and I'd like to keep it that way.

That's good to hear. It seems ludicrous to me that the OWNER of the watch would have no say in what is done to it when it's sent in for servicing. Your experience seems like a more reasonable response.

Whenever I have sent a watch to be serviced at Rolex Bexley in UK, whether directly or via an AD, Bexley have examined the watch and given a detailed estimate for work required if over and above the standard service charge. In my experience they always ask for the go ahead from the customer before any work is carried out.

The San Fran RSC is an Independent..

In other words, it is an Authorised Service Center, but it is not owned by the Corporate Mothership, Rolex USA as the Bevery Hills, Dallas, and New York Service Centers are..

San Fran does not march to the same strict rules laid down by NYC.. and there's another in the Chicago area..

Nice that there are still some watch makers out there respecting the integrity of a Rolex.
