Tried on a Breguet Marine... Oh dear...
I visited my AD this week, trying on a rosé-gold Sky-Dweller , which is still my grail watch.
But then hè showed me a Breguet A "marine chronograph" in red gold on a rubber strap. oh my..... Now i haven't stopped thinking about it and i'm pretty sure this one will be mine one day, but to be honest i don't know so much about the brand? Is it really that good in quality ? And how is it holding it's value? Could some of you enlighten me? (Sorry for the crappy phone picture)

The demand is not as widespread as ROlex, so even if it holds value it could take a very long time to realize that value in a sale. If you like it, you'll love the Tourbillon version
Only $130K

Alas, it seems like Breguet isn't the brand that holds its value the best on second hand market. Unlike Rolex, Patek and Audemars Piguet (although perhaps someone could confirm that I'm right with the last one) it seems like you may get a hit if you want to sell it again.
For what it's worth, Breguet is a part of the Swatch Group so people who only go for more independant companies will be disappointed with this one, however, it is not my case and I must admit I have a lot (and I mean it, a lot) of admiration for Breguet. Their movements are incredibly well finished, they make very beautiful watches with well made complications and I find most of their watches pretty original. Officer cases for some of them, a lot of guilloché dials (I believe they have one of the vey last guillochage lathes in the world, one out of three from what I've heard) and the originality of their watches is pretty unique. Besides, although they do have some pretty big watches I'm glad to see that they're able to keep a lot of their models under 40mm wide, in my humble opinion it is great to be able to have a brand who likes to keep their watches smaller. P.S.: You can't really go wrong if you want a brand with a lot of history, Breguet was a prioneer in the world of watchmaking and his reputation is next to none, he was a one of a kind man and is in the category of people who helped to make watchmaking a real art. A few of his discoveries and inventions may have been based on others' work but he was nonetheless a very talented man.

It's too dressy for a diver... I don't get it. Love Breguet though

I have to say it is a very beautiful watch =). On that note I would also take a look at the for sale section if you're wondering how it is selling currently (the breguet brand) in general.
In all honesty if you like it and feel you would wear it and enjoy it forget about if it's a good investment or not. Its a luxury piece which should be enjoyed, a lot of us on this forum are just spoiled because rolex hold such a strong value in the secondary market =). Get what you want and enjoy =) then again that's just my 2 cents |

Too bad it's just a tad too expensive for me, I'll have to settle down to buying only two of them...
Very beautiful watch indeed! I prefer Breguet dressier watches but the Marine collection is quite nice.

Much better!
All kidding aside, if you like Breguet I'd recommend you (unless the Marine is your favorite line of the brand) to take a look at some other timepieces they make. This one has been my personal all-time favorite since I discovered the brand. If you like chronographs... The Tradition line is also a classic one...

Thanx Carl !
Well i don't like the tourbillion, mostly because i don't like skeleton watches or something like it , in general. I sure like the one with the moonphase, something i also would like to have one day I don't really know why this one is so appealing to me, i'm really a rolex fan and not much other brands will do it for me, but this one really got to me. It's nice to know something about the maker... The price was pretty oke to me i think, it's about 18.000euro . Not that i can afford it right now.... But it's definitly on the wishlist .. Thanx!

Breguet are amazing watches, but like the other posts for me it will always be a dress watch not a marine or sports one (again others will disagree). I put them in the same category as AL&S. They do tend to drop in price quicker, but the movements and quality and watchmaker history is amazing, the link to Swatch group for me, means nothing, and to me I probably see them ahead of Blancpain, but again they have wide spreads on price.

My friend got one. Really a great watch. He got it used, only few months old under a 1.5yr warranty for 13000€. Check it out on chrono24 and I am sure you can find some good deals.

I absolutely love my Breguet Marine. The build quality is stellar. The history of the brand is amazing. I have worn the watch a lot and feel it is right up there in terms of quality with my Audemars Royal Oak 15300. Plus it's a lot more fun to stare at than my Rolex watches. The guilloche dial and blue chrome hands are mind bending. I could look at it all day.
Nevertheless, I definitely agree that buying USED is the way to go. I picked this one up for $8,000 a few weeks ago (thanks TRF!). It's a 2011 model year. |

I have tried on the big date Marine twice. I would have bought it if not for that rubber strap.
Beautiful watch, it needs a curved leather strap, yes I know "Marine" but I would not take it near water. Probably take a hit value wise so only buy if you really want it. I would love to add one someday, maybe a trade or a preowned one.

I am personally not attracted to the Marine line, but Breguet makes pieces of fantastic quality. Quote:

I really like the marine collection and second what many here have said, that they are great watches with a history that will match up to anyone in the industry. As far as being too fancy to be a dive watch, I say so what. I have many "tool" watches that I never wear as a tool, but rather as a cool looking time piece. I happen to love the rubber strap on mine as being a great change-up in the summer heat to most of my other strap watches.
I say go for it, BUT, buy used if possible as their love in the second hand market is not as good as some. With some due diligence, I believe the resale issue can be negated by buying right to begin with. |

Breguet is in the elite category of watchmakers. Art plus refinement. Since the market to sell into is not large compared to manufactures such as Rolex, you can take a hit if you ever need to sell.

Breguet has superb quality and rich in history.
The history shows more class than Panerai IMO. Breguet watch use by Napoleon Bonaparte and many other king/queen. |

I LOVE the non chrono version in rose gold and it's probably the only watch I'd consider that looks great on a rubber strap. Pick one up used for a considerable discount and it will then hold it's value relatively well. Almost all good sport-style watches take a big hit new but after the initial depreciation work out quite well.
