GMTc YG v Subc YG
I'm thinking of getting the black dial GMTc YG but sometimes I think the bezel is maybe a little busy and that I would be better off with the black dial Subc YG, altho as its a diver I'm not sure if it suits all gold as well as the GMTc as its a pilot's watch. So as ever I'd be very interested to read the forums thoughts on which YG, only the black dials, they prefer and why.

I think they are both awesome. However, the gold Sub is a lot less common around here and for some reason, I think there's something particularly badass about a solid yellow gold Submariner (I particularly like the black dial as opposed to the newer blue). I'd go for the Sub!

Both are fabulous choices. Won't go wrong picking either.

No wrong choice, but I think the 116718 is the best looking YG model that Rolex makes.
Will never tire of it. |

GMT IIc - beautiful, solid and functional! For the Sub YG, the Blue dial looks better!

Have you considered the blue YG Subc? Now, this is a very attractive reference mainly because I love Rolex blue, any blue. At the end I chose the 116718 because I already have the TT Subc. Good luck, Neil and I'm sure it's a very exciting time for you. |

The yellow gold Submariner is a nice watch indeed but I would prefer a GMT myself, I would find it more useful in everyday's life (the addition of the 24 hour hand has, to me, more chances of being used than the diving bezel and the water resistance). Besides, I think the yellow gold GMT does looks stunning!
Whatever you choose will be a good choice Neil. After all, you are debating over two fantastic watches.

An 18K YG GMTII is more useful for me than an 18K YG Sub.

Carl, I would use the functions of either about equally, ie not that often, altho the sub bezel as timer for cooking and running could be used a lot but I have other chronos for that as well so this will be more a luxury aesthetic purchase and you're right I can't go wrong here.
Afc1 and John, yes, when I joined here I would have thought that the iconic sub even in gold would be more popular but the GMTc clearly is as the poll is bearing out. Thanks Phong, congrats on your watch, and yes its a great choice to have to make, I'm very lucky, tho I won't be buying until next year probably. Thanks for all your comments. Keep the votes coming please. |

A pilot in gold makes sense. A diver in 18K gold less so. Both are fab choices, but I find the 116718 more attractive and importantly more comfortable on the wrist.

I picked the GMT because a) I had the WG Sub and b) I think the GMT bezel transitions from the black dial to gold case/bracelet better (more gradual vs drastic transition)

I will say that the glidelock on the sub is perfect for a gold watch as it gives you a good fit which is key to wearing a really heavy watch - you tend to wear it a little tighter so as not to flop around. However I've had no fitment issues with my GMT.

Have I mentioned, lately, how much I like my gold GMT?
Love the GMT function when traveling with it. |
