Traditionally, I've been no major fan of modern Rolexes, with the exception of the Deepsea, which I've been thinking about getting.

But, today, got to try the Deepsea next to the new Black/Blue GMT. And I have to say, as much as I've generally hated the polished center links, new rolex styling, all that, I loved the new GMT.

Torn between the two of them. Thoughts?

GMT is a better bet as an 'only watch' IMHO, DSSD is a great 2nd or 3rd.....mine is my weekend and vacation watch

GMT, for one thing I'd use the gmt hand... and it looks great.

I was wearing the Deepsea until I put the new GMT BLNR on today. Love my DSSD, but love this one more. I was like you... not a fan of PCL on GMTs but this one makes the blue pop in a great way. Both great watches, but I'm afraid the DSSD is going to sit in the safe deposit for awhile :). Good luck with your decision.

yikes, at opposing ends of a scale on this one. way too different for a toss up.
do you need a GMT function, do you fancy the new bezel, do you want something that can dress up or down, the latest and greatest.....
or do you like big watches, something that screams awesome - has presence, engineering wizbang features, no cyclops, an incredible diver....

only you can choose what you want. only one.....I'd take the BLNR for my needs.

Really like the BLNR but waiting for prices to come down. Expect it to happen early next year.

That's a good point. In years past, how long is it between launch usually and seeing pieces at a discount hit the secondary market?

Like you, I never cared for Rolex until the DSSD. The BLNR is definitely a pretty watch, but obviously wears quite differently from the DSSD. A couple of things swung me over to the DSSD:

1) PCLs are an issue for me - I scratch polished surfaces by breathing on them - I knew that this would drive me nuts on the GMT

2)I was able to get a substantial discount on the DSSD - from a value perspective, the DSSD is a lot of watch for the money

3)The DSSD is not for everyone - it's a relative rarity and I like that.

4)I believe it is one of the most technologically advanced watches Rolex makes - with it's depth rating, history, design and unique place in the Rolex line-up, I believe the DSSD is more horologically significant than the BLNR. Obviously, this is an opinion.

5)I have a feeling that Rolex will eventually stop making the DSSD at some point

5)Finally - the DSSD was just so impressive in the flesh that I couldn't resist.

I love the Deepsea...but it's brutal on my 6.25 - 6.5 inch wrist. I went with the BLNR and love it.
