When I unscrew the crown, wind the watch (let the gears engage), and then try to pull out the crown, the crown cannot be pulled out. I could if I exert strong force, but I feel it may damage the gears because the minute hand jumps a little when I force it. Instead, the crown has to be turned the other direction slightly (let the gears disengage) before I could pull out the crown to set date/time. My sub c and my father's sub c (pretty new) both act that way. Anyone else noticed/experienced that?

Yep, normal. When I unscrew mine you have to give it a little turn either way and then... pop, out it comes. Please, please don't "force it", just give it that little extra turn to engage everything.

I have had the same issues also. I think it has something to do with the gear teeth not meshing exactly. Just a movement back and forth with the crown and that solves the problem. And it doesn't do this everytime I set the watch, only occasionally.

Older truck transmissions with flat cut gears would sometimes require some coaxing to get the teeth off of each other and allow for meshing/engagement. Guess gears are gears.

...but none of my JLC, GO and IWC movements exhibit that "feature" (well except one - IWC 3531 w/ JLC mov't).

Mine does too, but it is my only watch which does. More annoying (for me) is the slack/bounce in the minute hand adjustment which can make it hard to get it bang on the minute at 0 seconds. I know how to get around this (turn back to the time) but it does bug me.

Hehe and here was me thinking I was the only anal one who sets my watch so the minute hand is pointing straight at the marker as the second hand sweeps past 12.
