AP/Rolex shopping in Grand Cayman/Turks & Caicos

Hey guys, i'll be going to the Caribbean in January for my honeymoon. While we have yet to decide which particular island(s) is going to host us, we are leaning towards the Cayman Islands and Turks & Caicos.

I've read on a few other threads here that there are some deals to be had in these locations, in particular, at Kirk Freeport for Rolex and at Magnum Jewellers for AP in the Grand Cayman.

Does anyone have any recent updates on these dealers and the sort of the discounts that can be had, and any information about the dealers/deals to be had in Turks & Caicos? Would I be better off buying from a local AD with whom I have a good relationship?

I understand that duty is to be paid when bringing it back through customs. Any other information will be much appreciated. Thanks!

I visited Kirk Freeport in March of 2012 and at that time they offered heavy discounts that made buying a no brainer, even with duty you were still way ahead.

I ended up paying $175 bucks for $3800 item, most dealers here wanted $4500-4800 and that ended up saving 20%+ off of retail.

People were pretty nice there and very helpful...

You can probably get better deals from trusted sellers on this forum than in any watch shop....

Sweet. May I enquire as to which item it was that you purchased? Is it possible to get more than 30% off on Rolex TTs (Subs and Daytonas)?

Yes, that is true, however, this purchase will be more for novelty value and as a souvenir from our honeymoon

I have never found extraordinary deals in the Caribbean. Grand Cayman has a good selection and several stores. Turks (Provo) has very little to offer.

Buy some carved coconuts for souvenirs...

You can by a Rolex anywhere, unless of course that is part of how you passed the WAF (Wife Approval Factor, or FAF - Fiance Approval Factor - in this case...)

I bought a watch on Turks & Caicos -- there are two dealers there, both of whom have many high end watches, and they will negotiate, though not so much on Rolex (I didn't haggle on Rolex as I was not looking to buy another one just yet).

I bought an FC WorldTimer at a good price, about 30% discount. I absolutely LOVE the watch.

But the sales guys were clueless, and for this they really should be held to account. They could not explain the use of the watch in any way shape or form (I needed some education about the complication, which I love but knew nothing about in the wild).

Looking back on it (I know a lot more now), it is embarrassing how little they knew of the key features of their own inventory.

But for me this ended up not mattering at all, as I am a very happy customer indeed.

Asking prices on Cayman is about the same as the US. I'm not sure about discounts, as I didn't really negotiate when I was there. I was just looking.
