rolex milgauss

i just got a rolex milgauss yesterday for my birthday and i am a perfectionnist.
the problem is that at first i thought that to wind a rolex you should shake it like other automatic watches . so i shook it like 10 times yesterday and i rotated the crown around 10 times and then wore it a little and got to bed. now i went to college today and after i got back i laid it on the desk for an hour then came back and it stopped. so first off i tried winding it only 5 times (it didnt do anything to it because i was scared of overwinding it) and after that i shaked it violently 10 times and it started working normally. I AM SCARED THAT HAVING SHAKED IT VIOLENTLY LIKE I DID TO OTHER WATCHES MIGHT HAVE DAMAGED MY NEW ROLEX ( THERES NOTHING WRONG JUST A LITTLE ROTOR NOISE WHEN I SHAKE IT CLOSE TO MY EAR) IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG????? PLEASE HELP !!!!

Your watch needs 40 full crown turns clockwise only to fully wind then it needs 8 hours plus of wearing to keep it ticking there is no need to shake it. Dont worry you cannot over-wind it, in the mainspring barrel there is a mechanism that prevents over-winding.And even if worn it will do no harm to give watch a full manual wind say once a week, and sometimes even if manually wound if may need just a gentle swirl to start movement. Thats because its mechanical and if you put watch near to your ear you will hear the winding rotor spin when you shake it..

Once, I forgot I was wearing my Explorer II and used a jackhammer for about 45 minutes before I was reminded to take it off. You can't manually shake a Rolex hard enough to damage it unless you do a backflip off a 30 story building. ;)

I guess after doing that, your rolex not working will be the least of your worries.

They didn't tell you any of this when you purchased it???!

I'm taking it that this was your first Rolex as it would make since for you asking the question. When I got my first Rolex they walked me through it all. Though a short process of understanding how to wind a watch and take care of it, they still ran through it with me, and made sure I was aware of everything. So, I just don't understand why they wouldn't tell you about all of this... Any way winding the watch for 40 winds isn't going to hurt the watch any... I Usually wind it more than that myself and I own quite a few automatic watches.

Oh and I own the Milgauss GV (my most recent purchase) and I am loving every bit of the watch! ConGratS!
