AP 26400 or CLA 45

Hi folks! I need your thoughts and advice for my decision. I am thinking of getting the new CLA 45 AMG, but my heart is telling me to get the AP 26400 SS , and get a Fiat Abarth for the other half.

Why not? It has a 5 star NCAP rating.

Yup, I was just talking with my family about how to spend a small inheritance we may soon get and I argued for a watch, not popular obviously, or a deposit on a flat for investment. Naturally a car came up but the terrible depreciation, esp when we on the forums work so hard to preserve the value of our watches, really put me off the idea.

It clearly isn't the least safe vehicle drive - that's just nonsense.

It got 5 stars from NCAP and the highest score in every category from the IIFHS...they don't just give scores like that willy nilly.

If you are going to get a small car - then a 500 is perfectly safe.

...back on topic though... I would get the CLA45 over the AP.

The AP (if bought used) will keep its value much better than the Merc.

I'm not a car person, no matter what keeps its value the most if you already have a vehicle then I'd say go for the AP.

If you have already had a vehicle, I'd say AP + Abarth. It spells Win-Win!

Interesting that in 17 replies, I am the only one to have picked an AMG. May I am not too AP addicted or this CLA AMG is really appealing to me.

For what it's worth, the reviews I've read on the CLA45 seem to be kind of eh. I agree they look pretty nice. I'd consider one for a daily in a few years after they take their usual MB depreciation.

If you love the car, do it. Otherwise, I'd expect that in a few years, the CLA45 would have lost enough money that you could have bought a 44mm SS with that cash!

I'd go with the AMG, but I'm biased, as they are my other passion!

(You can't drive the watch by the way lol)

Used M3 sedan is a much better car overall unless you're anti-BMW. That V8 alone is worth the price.

Depending on how many other pieces you have, if you already have a decent number of watches I would go with the CLA

AMG Mercedes = crazy depreciation

I'd love to have an E55 or E63 wagon for hauling stuff (and hauling a$$!) but I would never buy a new AMG. And the CLA is based on a FWD premise which seems antithetical to the AMG ethos.

Perhaps the AP + CPO AMG?

I'd agree with this statement. I have had a few M3s including the E9x variant and while I have driven a few C63 AMGs, they just don't feel the same. They look pretty and have an awesome stock exhaust tone, but put them in some corners and the difference is pretty apparent.

Like I said before, CLA 45 would make for a decent daily car in a few years when it's $25K.
