Rolex vs JLC vs IWC

I'm in the market for a dress watch with a leather strap with a budget of 15k.
I currently own the Sub Ceramic Date, GMTIIc, daytona white dial and the DJII. All 4 on SS bands. Would you recommend I stick with Rolex or switch to another brand. Right now the 2 other brands I'm considering are IWC or JLC. I looked at a"low" end PP at around $25k but the PP just didnt quite sing to me. All thoughts and input appreciated.

I would switch it up a little. It's always nice to have variety. Can't go wrong with either IWC or JLC. I'm also a fan of AP, Panerai, and Omega among others.

I would absolutely consider IWC - their 7 day is a very nice piece.

Have you looked at Audemars piguet? IMO, they are in another league.

I suggest you try them on at the respective ADs, ask about pricing and discounting, and carefully move forward.

Consider the metals involved. Do you prefer Yellow Gold? How about White Gold or Rose Gold?

Finally how about moving one of the 4 Rolexes to a Rolex leather strap, from the Rolex AD? A lot cheaper and the Daytona and DJII will look terrific, provided you ask the AD to also supply the proper leather band end links to fill in 'the gap'?

Good luck and Happy Hunting !

Thank you everyone for your input. I like either SS or White Gold. Somehow the AP Roo just doesn't sing to me. I'm actually thinking about the JLC Master Ultra Thin s/s perpetual calendar but it's $19k.

Take a look at the AP Royal Oak 15400 in ss for an icon, JLC Reverso or Master Grande Taille for classics both in ss. Look at IWC Portuguese Chrono - beautiful in ss with rose gold numerals and hands. Any of these would be keepers. The 1st three all have in house movements.

If you are looking for a dress watch I would highly recommend the JLC Ultra Thin Moonphase 39mm. In SS it retails for about $9k (before discount and 20% discount on JLC can be expected), and I think that is great value for money. You will get a true in-house dress watch by one of the most respected manufactures out there. IWC makes very nice watches as well, but IMO JLC is in another league.

Here is an article on the watch:

At that price range you have plenty to choose from.

AP would be my first pick. JLC makes some really awesome watches.

Rolex is nice, but there's more out there.

The ultimate AP on a leather strap would be a Leo Messi Chrono imho...

with that budget, you can get a nice JLC or older DD on strap.

I'd step outside the box and try something new.
IWC and JLC are 2 great choices.
Check out the Portuguese line with IWC. That new offering from JLC mentioned above looks fantastic as well!

The new JLC PC was just what I was thinking, beautiful clean crisp dial. The ss for $20K is amazing value for a PC.

Another gorgeous dress piece you may like to consider is the IWC Portuguese Chronograph Classic:

It always comes down to what you prefer, if you're a Rolex fan then you should buy one but if you like other brands a bit of diversity cannot hurt. Speaking for myself I'd go with a nice JLC Reverso or perhaps a MUT, I like IWC but their watches are too big for my tastes.

Like others said, you must try them on first and see which one you prefer though.

Why not a pre-owned gold Calatrava? I've seen them for $9K/$10K.

Another vote for JLC. Ultra thin with or without moon phase.

I am seriously considering the JLC MUT PC but it is a boutique only watch in SS therefore I presume .... no discount. :(
