Which is "the" Speedy to get and why!?
Hey all,
I'm considering getting my first speedy and I can't decide what to get... 321, 861... the newest (whats it called? a 3057.50)? Please let me know your thoughts. What is the speedmaster to buy and why? Thanks!!

If you want something new and as close as possible to the "Moon Watch" then you want the 3570.50. Hesalite crystal with solid back, cal.1861.
For me, now, I have the 3573.50. I like the durability of the sapphire crystal and the exhibition back is a bonus. I have been through several Speedies and have settled on this. You can't go wrong with any Speedy, really.

I love the 105.012 and 145.012, worn to the moon by Armstrong and Aldrin, respectively. But there are too many great references to call one definitive imho.

I'm not sure if you are looking for new or would opt for a used vintage piece. I have to say I'm a huge fan of the Transitional Speedmasters from 1968-1969. They are not to hard to come by with some patience.
You get the beauty of the older 321 dial with raised logo, stepped dial, long markers, and ringed sub dials with the newer 861 movement. The 861 came after the 321 and is cheaper to service and the parts are not as scarce as the 321's since the 861 is basically the same movement and the current Speedmasters. |

I've grown found of the sapphire sandwich. The manual movement is too beautiful to keep hidden IMHO.

When I decided to add a Speedmaster to my collection I settled on the 3570.50 and have no regrets. It is a great watch with so much history. You just can't go wrong with that watch, IMHO. Cheers, Bill P.

I would personally stay away from anything not Speedmaster Professional, e.g. Reduced, Date, Day Date, Moon Phase....etc
But that is just my very personal opinion |

I agree...the sapphire sandwich with manual movement will probably be my choice when I'm ready. I do like the chocolate as well...
