Bought most of mine from ADs in Europe and the UK, the only one I bought in HK at an AD I paid way over the odds because I wasn't prepared to wait!! Lesson learned!

UK VAT is 20% - around the EU it varies but normally around 20%.

Germany would always be the best place for me! Either Munich or Berlin... Expect a 19% vat on your purchases in these cities. I heard that SG (Singapore) is the best one in Asia but I have not tried shopping for watches in this country. Besides, why shop in SG if you could shop in EU??! Most of the fine watches are made in EU anyway. Rather not risk it! ;)

Yep UK 20, much of Europe around 20, I think the average is 19.6. Switzerland only 8.

How does that all work for a US buyer?
Pay VAT premium... then collect it back at a severely discounted exchange rate at the airport? What's the final discount? |

From what I've heard, I think Greece is hard to beat.
Despite the fact that we have 23% VAT, there are very big discounts, from 20-25% at most rolex and up to 30% at other brands. Of course there are some exceptions, such us panerai and very new rolex models but generally one can achieve great discounts. |

Depends, the last time I went to AP botique to enquire on the carbon novelty retail was 47k SGD. They offered a 10% discount plus 5 year warranty and they said that if its brought out of the country there is another 7% discount (tax rebate).
For the dealers they were offering at about 20-25% discount off 47k and an additional 7% rebate when u take the watch out of the country for the carbon novelty but only 3 years warranty. More discounts between 25-30% off the retail for RO watches at the dealers. Together with an additional 7% if u take it out of the country. |

Ain't Lee (obviously!) but I can help, from Singapore too. The ROOs at ADs would probably be discounted around 25%. Tax is 7% here, so you can do the math. The best deals are through grey dealers in my opinion, sets are coming in from Europe. My friend got a piece from a grey dealer, believe it was purchased at Bucherer (as far as my ailing memory recalls).
Last year December's prices for Black Themes: Dealer offered ~S$25.6k after 25% discount, grey dealer brought it in at S$22.4k. I have seen a ROO, can't remember which, advertised for S$22.9k in recent times. Got my first AP last week from a grey dealer here in Singapore. Discounted off retail somewhere between 25-30%, traded-in a piece I had as well which I was not using. Three year guarantee stamped on the day of purchase. Watch was brand new, all stickers on, and final price was $500 lower than U.S. internet price (Gemnation.com). Mind you that the price I paid was with Singapore tax ("G.S.T.", 7%) inclusive, as I am a permanent resident here now and cannot claim this tax back. AP boutique S'pore gives 5 year guarantee but 10% (or even 15% in a good number of cases) off retail. Couldn't be happier with the purchase so far, glad I made the step forward and did not buy Rolex for a fifth time. Will easily buy from the same grey dealer again.

I buy my AP at Israel..
They give me great prices.. 20-25% from new models, Sometimes even more on old models.. The VAT is 18% and I get it back because I have a foreign passport :) The best thing is that they offering a free shipping to Europe.. |

That is impressive. So what would a 44mm ROO Novelty Rose Gold be for example, as the list prices differ from country to country.
