Is this about right?
Hello,
N00b here and I just wanted some feedback on this service cost. I have owned my Explorer II for almost 3 years. Recently, the winding mechanism started to make noise if I shook the watch abruptly, I wasn't taking the watch off or anything, but if I would move my arm quickly I could feel vibration in the watch. Enclosed is the estimate (It is out of the two year warranty), Does this seem right? I fly with the watch and a small scratch was braised into the face but nothing serious. Just looking for some feedback from the forum if this should be the expected cost. I know you gotta pay to play, but sheesh, 6 hundo before tax and shipping??? -Brian |

Brian,
That is an estimate for a full service, new crystal, crown and tube. It is the standard rate for a full service at a Rolex Service Center... You say your Explorer is less than 3 years old and it makes a bit of noise when you shake it ?? You might not need a full service at this time, you might only need some attention paid to the rotor or counter weight.. If you're not up to the cost at this time (you would get back a like new watch), then take it to another Rolex Dealer with a watchmaker on staff...get a second opinion...

Great.. Thanks for the reply. Does Rolex charge a standard rate or does it vary from shop to shop for service? IE if the rotor/counterweight just needs some TLC, if the cost of that were half or more of total service then to would make sense to go forth with the full service. Basically I have no idea if it makes more economical sense because I don't know how much just a rotor tune would cost... Plus, not living in a major metro area it's difficult to take her 100 miles here then 75 miles there (but that's my own economical problem!) Thanks again

Welcome to TRF!
When RSC opens the watch, they will tell you what is needed to be done with it and give you an estimate.

i agree with Bo. send to the RSC(Rolex Service Center) and get it done right(or if finances are an issue right now, wait). Larry's idea is also not a bad option, if you're up to running around a bit......:)
best, dan |

Seems right to me. Your rotor may be knocking the sides of the case - not unknown with Rolex.
