I've been lusting after the Black/Blue "Bruiser" GMT Master for a while now. I saw one, once, at a store, but it was already purchased. I found it stunning. Yesterday, I was in the mall with my dear wife, and while she was shopping, I stopped in at the local jewelers, who carries Rolex and inquired. "We don't have one, but we just got a shipment in last night, let me go check." Sure enough, he walks out of the back with an unopened box. He puts on the white gloves, takes it out, removes the plastic cover on the bezel, adjusts the bracelet size, and it's on my wrist. I feel that warm, happy feeling in my stomach, as he tells me that it just came in...he has had a hard time getting them...it won't last a day...but I can have it, since I'm there now. I knew that was part truth, part sales, but didn't really care. Here it was...available...and I had even recently started a new job, which is a perfect excuse to celebrate with a Rolex. And i'll be travelling for work, so a GMT Master seems kismet!

And then something strange happened. I handed it back to him, said "thank you," and walked out. Now, even at the crazy price of $8950, this still represented much less of my disposable income, than my ExplorerII did, a decade and a half earlier. The story for that watch was quite similar. New job (though ironically one where I would stop travelling), very hard to get watch (back then), a "this just came in and won't last the day" situation. Back then, I bought it on a credit card and took a few months to pay it off, but I pulled the trigger. Yesterday, I could easily pay cash, but I walked away.

Today, I'm wearing my old ExplorerII. It has been relegated to weekend and vacation duty, since I picked up a Daytona, a few years ago. But it still functions flawlessly. And it still makes me smile, every time I look at it. I think I made the right decision, but it was a strange feeling, none-the-less.

When you're not ready to buy a watch there's nothing you can do about it, if you really love and want that watch you'll get it someday when the moment will be right. It might be strange at first when you think that everything was there for you to leave with a beautiful timepiece but if something was wrong at that moment you'll end up finding what it was or just forget about it and purchase it another day.

There will be 10's of thousands more coming after that one, so I believe you made the right call. Its always best when you get your heart and your mind on the same page when it comes to a major purchase decision like this one.

Perhaps it was calling the watch a silly name like Bruiser bighaole that the watch is not for you at this present time.But expect there will be many thousands of GMT11c with the new insert colour combination now and in future for many many years to come.

Sometimes less is more... sounds like maybe you wanted to make the purchase based on "hype" and came to your senses... I've done this many times with things, I want, I want it, I want it, then when I actually have the item in hand... well maybe I really don't want it. Better to do that than to buy it and have buyer's remorse down the road. Good for you.

good decision. there's nothing like a compulsive buy and then kinda regret it because the watch was not really what the heart loves. it's better to keep what you love and wear it happily. congrats :D

No rush. There will be "time". It's not over forever, not a permanent decision....it's just on hold for the future. Take your time and decide when the time is right. Sometimes I wait on a big decision and in the interim I find something I want more. Who knows what will soon come out, whats' around the next corner? Wait savor, think, contemplate. That's also part of the fun, no?

Always go with your gut...it has to feel right on a purchase such as this one. I've been there before, and sometimes walking away can be a pretty good feeling too.

Sometimes, if it does not sing to you then you know it's the right choice. I recently went in ti a store with my hear set on a 18ct GMTc, tried it and knew straight away that it was not for me.

You did the right thing and went with instinct - have been there myself - as others have said, there will be any amount of these and other models up for grabs and you won't have to pay an AD price. Stash some more cash away and wait a while - am sure you will get a good deal in time! No pun intended! Good luck and god hunting!

Retail is ok but add sales tax on an expensive purchase like a Rolex and it becomes uncomfortable, at least that's how I feel.
