Another poll of two fantastic watches, a sporty Rolex vs a classy Patek.

5170G, in my mind it's just a better everyday and dress watch and more timeless tho the plat-ona is a beast and is very very gorgeous in the metal.

I'd honestly get the Daytona. Now make it a 5070P and it's a different matter (even despite the size and lemania movement).

5170G any day. The Daytona does nothing for me; my white dial 116520 is enough Daytona for me.

I like both, and I'd love to own both.
But if I were to pick one it would be the Patek. |

I'd go with the Daytona. The PP is a damn close second though.

At that price...
I would get a Lange Datograph in pt, either new or pre-owned.

I don't think that you can compare the two watches. The PP is timeless.

Price wise, the 5170 is 10-20% higher in list price compared to the Platinum Daytona. The fact that the same movement is used in the SS Daytona as the Platinum Daytona makes the Daytona stand out less except that it is enclosed in platinum and fairly heavy.
As a daily watch, the 5170 is definitely the better choice. If you are looking for exclusivity, the Platinum Daytona may get the nod if Rolex decides to produce it in limited quantity. |
