They're back yeah... But it's not a SAAB anymore. IMHO. I see no point for the Chinese to continue production in Sweden to make money.

They had a cult following here in the states, a small number of fanatics worshiped them, but many of them have moved on. I don't see them becoming a major player.

Back in the 80's, I owned a 900 and 900S. Later, when GM had them the thrill was definitely gone. Probably their only viable market will be China.

Lost their way when they became a GM Parts bin car brand.
My personal fave back in the 80's was 900 Turbo Aero.
My friends Dad had one, he had to unlock the handbrake to start the car

Agreed.

I still look at the classic ads now and then and fantisise about a 900 high-pressure Turbo. Maybe one day I'll treat myself...

Being originally from the Northeast, I will always have a soft spot for the 900....especially the 900 turbo convertible.

SAAB made great robust quirky cars then they made the 900 TURBO undoubtedly their greatest achievement then they died, oh and stayed alive for another decade or more making largely average cars on a crappy chassis shared with Vauxhall and Lancia or Alfa from memory. Their final death was overdue, they actually had a really good car coming in their new 9-5 but it was well overdue and like usual over-engineered. Their lowest point is a tough battle between keeping their models running for 15 years or re badging a Subaru Impreza as a SAAB. I say let them die with dignity. This has the smell of MG Rover about it, they might as well move their production line to Asia/South America now. This is poignant for Australia as the Australian arm of General Motors announced the end of their local production in 2017, Ford is doing the same in 2015. Unfortunately if you cant make over 300,000 cars a year, you cant make them in a high cost market, no matter how good the engineering know how is.

Saab is back with a ten year old car with old engines... Who in their right mind would buy yesterdays technology while their are better alternatives available. I used to like the brand, but when GM took over the fun was over. They died a long time ago.

Great driver cars Saabs owned a few in my lifetime and had one of the first 99 turbos registered in the UK later had two 900 turbo great cars.

I loved the looks and feel of the 1980's 900 series!!!! They were so ugly, they were beautiful (like the VW bugs). Went to Church with the owner of the dealership in Cleveland. I remember brand new 900's were like $12,000 dollars, thought that was a fortune!!! Now you spend more than that for a econobox that will fall apart in 5 years.

Surprise, surprise, the Chinese are investing into a known brand.......which is all that matters to uneducated consumer......is it not?Build a piece of junk product with cheap parts and materials and slap a well respected brand sticker on it.NO THANKS.
5 years ago, Ive made a conscious choice to boycott anything that said made in china or has any cheese ties.I drive American/Canadian vehicles, buy local food, etc.
Not trying to turn this political, but people really have to think whos economy they're supporting.Strength is in numbers.
