Submariner lume
Here's a question, my 16610 has pretty bad lume (super luminova), I mean, it does work but ain't great.
I intend on sending it for a service at an RSC in the next few years, if I specifically ask for a re-lume or the chromalight (right spelling?) substance to be added, is this something rolex would do? Sent from my iPhone

No, they will not.. Rolex does not re-lume..
You could ask for a new dial and pay the price, but it will likely still be Luminova. Eventually even the service dials will be blue too, but I'm not sure if we're there yet...

You may want this piece to age naturally rather than replacing the dial. Or replace the dial and keep the original if you want to claim this as a vintage piece way down the road.

Thought that might be the case, thanks for your reply.

Good advice above.
When I had my 15 year old 16710 serviced at the RSC, the Luminova was pretty useless before but much brighter when I got it back. I think the dial was cleaned as part of the service, possibly worth checking if that is the case with your RSC :) |

An M serial Sub.....thats about as good as the lume is gonna get even with new hands, even superluminova hands(RSC won't put chromalight hands on it). Fact is the lume on pre ceramic models isn't really that great or should I say the hands are pretty thin so the surface area for lume is minute causing for relatively weak illumination, compared to most other companies.
I had an M serial SD and one of the reasons I sold it was the weak lume and skinny hands, I much more appreciate the maxi dial and markers of the modern line. I do like vintage and accept maybe even no lume but that's another story and this isn't vintage so you either have to accept it or look at other options. |
