Sub 114060 Vs. 116610

a couple of years ago i was in a Local AD ( which i no longer go to) and the salesman said to me " why would you get the Non-Date Sub if you could afford the Date Sub?? and i was dumb enough to let this salesman talk me out of the Non-Date ........... to be honest it left an impression on me for a while and after doing a lot of research both on here and just generally into the history of Rolex i realized just how wrong this salesman was!! has anyone ever heard this from a salesman before?? it truly shows just how little of Rolex's History this Gentlemen actually Knew!! but i was curious if anyone had ever been told this before by someone selling rolex watches???? i know am about to get myself a 114060 and absolutely can not wait to be a part of the club that owns this AMAZING timepiece!! and i believe it will help round out my collection , which already has multiple "Date" Pieces!!

Working on commission? The bigger the sale, the bigger his paycheck.

When I bought my wife's DJ, the salesperson told my to get the date over the no-date, because it's more classic. Basically, the cyclops say "ROLEX", whereas the no date would "blend in too much".

The SubC ND is more balanced IMO. Sure, a date function is practical, but the ND is a nicer watch IMO.

To the uninformed, the date is seen as an upgrade...most sales people would fall into this category.

Really I think the clean symmetrical lines are best appreciated by the WIS.

That may just have been that salesmans sincere opinion....many here simply prefer to have a date.

As you also point out you have other pieces with a date, as a one & only watch a sub without a date may have left you wanting?

That said, i owned a sub date for many years, but today if i were going to buy a sub, for sure it would be without a date.

If they recommend the cheaper of two models, now that's when you pay attention.

Be positive. The date has a little bigger market/demand.

He must not be worth a damn. If he were, he'd know that Rolex makes two submariners; the Submariner and the Submariner Date. The Submariner was first. There is no such thing as a "no date" Submariner.

I have a 1680 Red Submariner (date), a 16610LV (date), and a 114060 Submariner (which I purchased for its classic looks).

Sub owners all love their respective models, each has its attractions and followers. My AD offered my ND as a leftover non ceramic model late last year at a fantastic price. He said not only is it about $1,000 less than the Date model, there's a cult among Rolex owners that can trace its lineage back to Jason and the Argonauts ;) So I got it !

Considering you already have a small fleet of Rolexes, are you really going to blame the salesman? This is the first time someone in sales has tried to upsell you?

Maybe you should learn to stick with your own opinion and not be so swayed by salesmen or forum members for that matter.
