I need it at 40mm, minimum. Could even go a 42, if forced.

Have a look at the DJ2 41 mm. Just a suggestion.

I find the Air-King perfect as it is right now but if you want a bigger watch and don't mind a date the DJ-II is your watch!

Nope, no date. Arabics with blue lumed markers. White gold bezel. Just too small at 34mm.
Selling a DJ2 at the moment, just didn't do it for me.

They make a 39mm AirKing. It's called the Explorer. The 41mm version is called the DateJust2.

A larger AK doesn't fit into the Rolex line.

34mm no date-AirKing
34mm date- OP Date
36mm no date- Oyster Perpetual
36mm date- DateJust

40mm AirKing 2?

The AK is so closely tied to Hans Wilsdorf that I don't see much changing with it.

No white dial on the E1.

I know I'm being fussy, but why not? What do y'all think? Would it be a good upgrade/model? Or a dud?

I used to feel the same way, but now I like that it's kind of a vintage-size holdout in an era of bling and bloated cases. Just bought one for the wife, but may end up with another for myself.

I hear you, but 40mm with the thinner lugs is a long way from bloated. Would hate to see the AK consigned to history from lack of demand.
And a pity to see it relegated to our other halves! Well, those that don't wear Daytona's !

I wouldn't want the AK to go down the same road as the Explorer....36 to 39. That doesn't work for me at all. Kind of what I meant by bloated really.

Yes, but have you bought one? For yourself? I reckon that's the point. What good is it for a manufacturer to stick tightly to their history if few are interested?

As I said, I just bought one for my wife, this week, and may well get another for myself.

Cannot understand why is it because todays trend everything bigger or heavier is perceived as better. Myself have eight and half inch wrists, yet quite happy to wear some of my vintage watches of around 30mm case size.

It's all down to personal preference. For me, they just look small and I don't think they suit.
Just opinion, everyone will have a different one. No issues with that from me.

How about an Oyster Perpetual - no date, 36mm, choice of dials, albeit limited.

I bet the dial would fit in the 39mm Explorer.

I don't know why everyone thinks the AK is such a slow seller. I've asked several ADs and they always say it's a popular model. The price point helps with that. Now by TRF standards, you'd think everyone owned a Submariner; but the public's interest and the enthusiast's interest are two different things.

If you are willing to go with an Omega, you can get AT8500 with white dial and 41.5MM
