Left is the old one and the right is the new? I dont know but I like the left one better.
Maybe is the difference between the H and I series. |

I don't think there is any difference, it's the lighting and the way the dial reflects light at different angles.

I actually prefer the right - seems more legible.
Seems strange to make a dial change on this particular piece considering the origins of it. |

Yeah, I think someone may be making a joke playing on the way the color appears to change with angle of incident lighting, hence the smileys.

I think its just the lighting, mine is new dated (october 13) I series & it seems to be darker & lighter in diff light.

I also think they're the same. The left one reflects a light object (a window?) and the right one a dark object.
The dial on these jumbo's is magical so one can expect these kind of colour changes ;) |

Actually, im just noticing, if you look at the audemars piguet font on my two images, it seems that 1 is much darker than the other, similar to the pic the OP posted.

Those two dials are indeed different. Yet they are the exact same reference.
Logo does have a slight change too. Check out for more photos, from SerdarFB @Turkey Watch Forum ![]() http://forum.saatforumu.com/viewtopi...#axzz2n7S656Z5 ![]() |

Darker dials will always appear bigger, much in the same that dark rims will appear larger on a car. I think that is just the minute hand covering the logo and making it seem altered.

My early H series looks like the piece on the left. Could it be AP applying a different color coat for the dial after the problems with the initial batches? I had my dial replaced when it was verified that the blue was not evenly coated.
The darker shade looks good though :)

In this video of how they make the dials, the shade looks darker, just like the jumbo on the right.

Maybe it's one of those weird dial changes like the one on the DS.

My personal taste tells me our older H series 40th anniversary pieces may have just gotten a little more special (and valuable?). But perhaps the majority doesn't agree with me and it's the opposite... |

… having the newer style markers on the dial would have been a deal breaker for me, i hope they don't change, but if they do, like you said… it would make the 40th anniv a bit more unique ![]()

Do you guys think this darker dial is more in tune with the original from 1972?

The lighter one seems to have more dimension, but it seems mine runs through the range of shading through the day...blue to almost black and almost grey.
