Pepsi ... "Right Now"

Incoming ... 1972 Rolex GMT 1675

I've been searching for a vintage pepsi in excellent condition for some time now and recently came across this one at a local jeweler that specializes in vintage and estate watches. It has a red stripe service sticker on the caseback but appears to be all original. Any feedback you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Great looking 1675. I'd be surprised if that insert is original but who cares. The hands and dial seem to match and look great. Congrats on a great find.

Bottom lugs look to be different lengths. Bezel a bit worn.
But that's a pretty bad pic, hard to tell for sure.

Thanks for all the feedback ... I love this forum! Here is a wrist shot. You can see the lugs are equal length and are flush with the end links. When held out, there's little to no bow in the bracelet and the clasp is very tight when snapping it on. The watch appears to be hardly worn which is why I'm hoping the bezel appears to be too fresh. I hope it will fade to a cool ice blue color with wear. The only signs of age I can see are the patina on the hands and markers and the dial has a very slight brown/tropical tinge to it. Can anyone confirm the dial variation ... MK2?

Do the minute, hour and second hands glow? Nothing wrong with replaced lumina hands, but it bothers some folks.

Hands and bezel look very "shiny". Maybe they are replacements.

If you buy and pay for a vintage, have them checked.

If you buy just a nice GMT, then you got a bargain, but for the good order sake, have a look inside as well.

Not to raise any concerns, but that second hand looks a bit off to me.The luminous circle should just touch the tip of the hour hand.
Is this fron Darlor by chance?

The seconds hand is genuine and the correct length. The 16750 GMT seconds hand was shorter. (The aftermarket seconds hands do not taper from the tritium circle to the tip like on a genuine hand.) Additionally, when the tritium circle from the seconds hand crosses over the hour hand, it should cross over the middle of the tip of the hour hand like on this watch. All the hands appear to be genuine Rolex.

The dial is a Mark II circa 1971. The bezel insert is a Rolex replacement but so are most bezel inserts on 40-year-old watches.

The green hang tag does not belong to the watch and if the red tag has a hologram, it does not belong either.

Enjoy your watch, it appears to be in great condition for the age.

Cool! Good to know. In that case, assuming MitchSteel is right about the luminous ball on the second hand just touching the tip of the hour hand, could the hour hand be a replacement? Do you know if they vary from the original?

As usual John is dead on! The only thing that bothers me, and it could be my eyes, but the hour and minute hand appear to be luminova, or they do not match the plots, second and GMT hand.

Yeah, the jeweler places random hang tags on all their used rolex watches. There are no box/papers. The sticker on the caseback is clear with the exception of a red line ... no hologram. Thanks again for your time and feedback.

Im not claiming to be an expert on vintage Rolex by any means, but what I wrote earlier was a polite way of saying, the hands were replacement.I may be wrong, and YES, the hands can be replaced of course.Now, look, if it is a good deal, I would NOT turn it down, just because the hands are off.The rest of the watch looks good, maybe you've got a swinging deal on that unit, if that's the case, good on ya mate

Thanks! I appreciate all input. I now suspect that the minute and hour hands may be replacements or as one member put it, "new old stock" ... love it!

Having said that, it seems strange that they would need replacing when everything else appears to be original and in good shape, no? Do you know if this is not uncommon?
