Vintage 1930s Solid 14k White Gold Hamilton ANDREWS w/Original Dial

Up for sale is this rare early-1930s Hamilton Andrews in solid 14 karat White Gold. This is one of the highly desirable "Explorer" models produced with an upgraded rectangular Illinois cal. 207, subsequently rechristened Hamilton 401, after that company's acquisition by the legendary American marque from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This great rectangular watch features its original creamy off-white dial with luminous Radium numerals and is in Excellent vintage condition overall. It has also just been fully overhauled by my Master Watchmaker and comes with a 6-month movement guarantee for all normal, non-abusive use. Simply put, this beautiful watch is a Grail-level Depression-era design classic for the advanced Hamilton collector.

The asking price for this wonderful original example of Hamilton Andrews is $1475 USD OBRO including fully insured worldwide FedEx shipping. Bank Wire preferred. Paypal is also OK with split fees (+2% to the buyer). Other payment options upon application. Payment must be made in US DOLLARS. Watch will ship upon full clearance of the funds, as well as any necessary bank vetting. Please contact me at tomvox1@hotmail.com for any inquiries.

CASE & CASEBACK: Elegant, straight step-sided 2-piece Wadsworth case in solid 14k white gold measures approximately 37mm long x 22mm wide and a slim 6mm at full crystal height, a beautifully proportioned rectangular dress watch. The stepped case is nice and sharp with only light signs of previous polish. There are only minor marks to the case and back and the downward-sloping lugs are strong. By my strict standards, I rate this case as solidly Excellent+ vintage condition. The snap-in caseback is extremely sharp and there is a charming and not very deep dedication dating from 1932. The inner caseback of this Andrews shows all correct hallmarks for a solid gold Hamilton Wadsworth case of this era.

DIAL & HANDS: Original factory-printed ivory-toned dial with original Radium Arabics luminous shows some aging--Very good to Excellent unrestored condition. The original and correct blued steel hands also appear to retain their original luminous fill and they are Excellent+. With so many refinished Hamilton dials out there, it is always great to see an original in this sort of beautiful condition, especially on a special model like this one.

CROWN: Correct unsigned knurled crown (possibly white gold, as well) winds and pulls out to the time-setting position as it should and sits flush to the side of the case.

CRYSTAL: Low, curved glass crystal is very clean--Near Mint.

MOVEMENT: High-grade and beautifully finished 19-jewel adjusted manual-wind Hamilton caliber 401, which is based on the highly regarded Illinois 207 movement. Hamilton actually improved it to create the 401 when they took over the Illinois Watch Co. in 1928. The H-prefix serial number, unique to the 401, dates it to circa 1930-33 from the best available info. This Andrews has just been serviced and is running strong and keeping good time. It is guaranteed for 6 months of normal, non-abusive use.

BAND: This great Andrews comes on a very nice and brand new rust calfskin strap with vintage pigskin finish and white metal buckle. It is a bit short and fits my 7 1/4" wrist at the second to last punch but suits the watch beautifully.

I make NO guarantees for the water resistance of this watch in any way, shape or form, as this watch was never guaranteed water resistant by Hamilton from new and certainly isn't any more so now. ;)

This great Vintage Hamilton is offered with a 3-day inspection period from the date of receipt and may be returned for a full refund less any shipping costs incurred by the buyer. This refund is unconditional and once I get the watch back in exactly the same condition as it was sent to you, your money will be refunded. Of course, once the 3 days are over the sale will be considered FINAL.

Thanks for looking,
T.
