Daytona Zenith x Daytona 116520
Dear friends,
I have a question that comes poking my brain some days. Nothing better than to share it with someone who understands. I own a Rolex Daytona Model 16520, letter w, Zenith movement white dial, with the mark IV dial (subdial with "6" correct). I bought it about 16/17 years ago, brand new, and since then its mine, I used for a long time, but is mint, in excellent condition, all the revisions was made in the Rolex Service Center. I do not know why some time ago I have been "bothered" with this white dial. So here's my question: Here in my town has a dealer who has a Rolex Daytona Model 116520 (Rolex 4130 machine, with black dial that was purchased a few 05 years, but never been used, this watch including the stamps for transport and all plastic protectors. Do you guys think I change my used mint white dial Zenith for the new black dial model, important detail without putting any money!!! Why yes, why no ? I always heard say that the Zenith movement was better and that over time it would be more expencive than the new ones, is this true? Another thing has some comparative post or link, between these two models of Daytona? Dear friends Please help me, because I want to take a step that tomorrow will not regret it! Has anyone had this question or did this change? Thanks in advance for your attention and ask you to respond as soon as I have to talk with the seller next week. thank you all |

I'm a fan of the white dial/black subdial look. So, Zenith for me.

I would keep yours since you bought it brand new.
You can always get the new in-house movement version later.

I've seen arguments for and against both the zenith and the in-house. Get what you think is best for you.

You'll be sorry...........the only modern SS Daytona worth owning is a white dial Zenith!!!! You'll be bored to tears before too long with the black dial plus, you can't see a thing on it..........Good luck whatever you decide

I would keep the Zenith as is.
IMO one of the best Daytonas to own except for a 6263.

What bothered you about the white dial? Maybe it's temporary. Your Daytona sounds like a classic that would be nearly impossible to replace. The only thing I don't like about the el primero movements is the lack of hacking seconds. I agree with the others who say that you can always get a 4130. Maybe a second Daytona is in your future?

The 4130 movement is a real improvement but the subdials positions, the wider hands and markers were not of my taste when I had to take a decision like yours. Zenith was the obvious answer.
Now, if we were talking RG or Pt things would be different... Sent from my SGS using Tapatalk. |

I have a modern black dial one and love it, but a white face Zenith would be a keeper IMHO

dear friends,
I would like to thank everyone who kindly gave me their impressions and opinion about my doubt. In some moments I really think the black dial is more beautiful and elegant, especially if it is to use the night at a dinner or a party. However due to personal history I have with this watch, the fact that he is mine since new, the fact that a watch almost 20years, until today this current and trendy, the fact that I know exactly everything that happened to him , for making all service and repairs to the Rolex Service Center, and especially the help I got from friends, I chose to stay with him. Here are a few photos, Thanks everyone ! And to celebrate my decision, nothing better than a dose of Brazilian cachaça, also know as "branquinha" means "small White" or "White one". Salute , saúde cheers and Slainte !! |

The white Zenith is cool and a keeper. Will hold and upgrade its value as well. No brainer. I would not trade if I had one. Congratulations on your decision to keep your Baby!

Hello,
I have a TT 16523 bought in the 1990's. If you look at the small dial at 6, you will notice that the "6" on the small dial is actually a "9". Is that common? Does it have a Zenith movement? I had bought this beauty in Geneva almost 20 years ago. Any insight would be helpful. If I have posted this in the wrong section I am sorry. I am new :) |
