Pam424 or 590?

Hello all,

Wanna know which one you will go for, the 424 or newly announced North America only SE 590?

Thank you so much!

424 is a no brainer! Such a beautiful watch. Love the dimensions, the way it looks and the unique face.

any reasons for not picking the 590? Agreed that 424 is a beautiful one, but 590 on the other hand is also very nice, tough choices for me

Personally, I just like the 424 more. Dial, date, case, gold hands. The 590's dial is a bit too cramped yet empty at the 3 and 9. Kind of like a cheap imitation of the 203.

If I didn't have a Luminor already, the answer might be different.

Just to say, a "DNA" Paneristi will choose the 590 over the 424 because they think a date on a Cali dial is sacrilegious (even the logo is suspect on a Cali dial, but not as bad as the date). Myself, I just like what I like.

Totally agreed

I also ask for help to choose between these two in a Hong Kong Panerai forum and so far 590 got zero vote. I love 424 since I tried it on last weekend, it fits me well though I have a small wrist 590 as smaller version of the classic 203 with the "3" & "9" taken out, it totally kill the beauty. Pros of 590 over 424 is its P.5000 8-day pwr resever v.s. the P.3000 3-day, this makes me not totally lean on 424.

If you want to get one of these soon and it comes down to movement, I would take the P.3000 because it's been around longer, so any kinks have more likely been worked out. P.5000 is new....let someone else help OP test the movement. Plus, the P.5000 doesn't have a PR indicator, so, it takes away some of the benefit of the 8-day, IMHO.

Rumor is at least 1,000 pieces for the 590, so you'll easily be able to get one in the future.

Of course, 590 has a chance for appreciating, while the 424 has to be a keeper since it will likely depreciate more (or try to buy used).

Good luck with the choice!

I would say that your initial reaction is the 424, so don't let public opinion cloud your judgement.

I've seen it happen so much over the years, its almost like a type or subliminal marketing.

the 590 is not coming out for another 6 months?

As for other Cali variants, there are lots, 249, 448, etc. but it seems that the 424 caught your eye for some reason?

Cost is always a factor, but at the current prices, new or slightly used, the 424 is a looker for sure!

Is it too big? maybe, but it will wear the same as other 44mm Luminors as it doesn't have the crown guard.

Take the plunge and post some pics:-)

Thank you for all your nice advices!

Drop by BT yesterday, 590 launch date is Oct but the actual come out time would be much later than that. I think I will work on the 424
