I bought it in Barbados new in I think 1998. Water got in it by accident with an unscrewed crown 10 years ago and it was promptly serviced by a 40 year experienced master watchmaker.

Looks and runs great. Does it really need service?

Nobody can really answer that, but let me say this..

If you had water get into your watch simply because you left the crown unscrewed it was because routine maintenance was neglected. A Sub will NOT let water in if the seals have been kept in good condition and changed when needed, even with the crown unscrewed.

So, here you are after a decade with a watch that "looks and runs great"... that is only half the issue.

How are your tube, crystal and case-back seals holding up after these past 10 years. Do you know ? Do you want to wait until it gets water inside again for that service ?.

I think he replaced the gasket and it is watertight. It is my everyday watch. I shower wit it it never fogs and keeps great time.

The crystal has a tiny chip you can see it in the pic (see if you can find it lol).

I am going to take it to an experienced watchmaker who has worked on Rolex for many years. The basic price is 3 bills. I Just wanted to hear the opinion of the community to make sure I am not wasting 300 dollars.

You likely could stretch it out if all appears fine, however as was suggested, who knows if it's water resistance is still up to par. I think if its your daily wearer, 10 years is a pretty good run and a service will pay dividends in its longevity.

I wouldn't want 10 year old oil running in my cars! It's worth the money to get the seals replaced, new oils, and a pressure test done. I would also get the crystal replaced, and have him give it a light polish. It then will be like a new Rolex!

You shower with it every day, do you get a pressure test done every year? At the 10 year point I would lean toward having it done.

If works fine, does not need a service. You have to only do pressure test periodically.
Compare cars and watches is really not the right way.

Do the service, it's time. Rolex ownership demands spending some $ from time-to-time.

This is sure, but 10 years old oil in a car is like 50 years old lubricant in Rolex watch. You should change oil in your car yearly, no? ;-)
