Visiting USA May-June Rolex Tips!

Hi Everyone,

I probably should post more and participate in threads, but I'm a avid reader of most threads so please excuse me if my thread count is a little "bare".

Anyway, I am going to holiday through the USA from 29 May - 27 June, the itinerary are the following:

- MIAMI (May)
- NEW YORK (June onwards)
- BOSTON
- AUSTIN
- LA
- VEGAS
- SAN FRAN

My question for you US based WIS folk are:

- Best location (my destinations) for AD discount?
- Does time of year (May or June) affect my bargaining (how much % off) power as in better to purchase in May or June?
- Any EOFYS at AD?
- Or if could anyone recommend a reputable forum seller on location?

Thanks everyone and I appreciate all relevant responses! Can't wait for Austin to sample some BBQ!!

PS. The watches I am looking to choose from are:

- Deepsea
- Submariner Two Tone
- Datejust 2 (silver face)
- JLC Master Geographic
- JLC Master Calendar

If I do purchase early in my trip, should I wear it (assuming it is safe to do so in the cities I have chosen) or post it home (Sydney)?

Accommodation wise I will be mixing it up with hotels and hostels (as I am under 30 and would like to party to meet new people), so that's the other reason I ask about the risks of wearing my new purchase.

Cheers!

Definately a sampling of the major US cities. You'll be safe in those places, just use common sense.

Vegas is probably the most convenient place to shop. All the major brands on the strip but I don't know about discounts. LA is great for watches but you'll have to travel around. Rodeo Drive,Southcoast, etc. New York has it all.

Enjoy!

My advice given the drop in A$ is buy here, claim your tax back and enjoy your holiday.... A good used deal from Australia is better than buying in the USA.

Make your choice BEFORE coming and have David or one of the trusted sellers send it to you at your first city. Then enjoy the watch on your holiday!

Visiting USA May-June Rolex Tips!

I salute you Sir. A discount, "is it safe" and buying abroad thread all in one!

As a tourist you will likely have very little bargaining power - unless you buy more than one watch...

Rolex watches (certainly not the popular models you list) do not go on sale...end of year or otherwise.

David SW is in Orlando, Florida. A side trip to do a deal with him may be your best bet.

Good luck!

When in San Francisco you have to check out Jacek at HQ Milton. Lots of vintage watches you can buy, and just a wealth of knowledge about Rolex.

Hope you have a great trip! I think you will want to manage your expectations about AD discounting when you will be a fly-in buyer to the sales rep. It's not like you'll have the time to negotiate over several days at any one location, right?

As for location - Las Vegas has several ADs with wide selections - especially in the Wynn Resort. But that's not a great discount site since buyers are flush with cash.

Time of year and EOFYS at ADs are very little influences on sales bargaining since you'd be limited to their stock on hand - and that may not match your targeted pieces.

The best advice I have agrees with others here - contact a trusted TRF seller in/near a city you'll be visiting and do a deal. Based on the US pricing, you'll be already getting a great implied discount compared to Australia AD prices.

Or this. Go to Disneyworld or Universal Studios while you are there. I did. Great fun.

Thank you for the tips gentlemen!

Any specific ADs I could visit? I hear Jersey is a good place to shop?

Zama, you really think our 10% GST claim will be worth it compared to US prices even with the poor exchange rate atm?

Cheers,
James

James, you're going to get killed on taxes buying a high end time piece from an AD. I would recommend searching the For Sale section(s) here and having one of our trusted sellers ship to your hotel.

Enjoy Vegas, one of my favorite cities, if you have time (and a date) dine fountain side at the Picasso restaurant at the Bellagio.

I wouldn't be ordering up any Rolex for delivery to a hostel!

+1 Orlando is a fantastic place to have a great holiday. We've had our honeymoon there, best vacation ever

Quite right. I forgot about their recent remodel and mini- Rolex history display.

Nice people as well and great selection of latest models.

Haha Yea VEGAS Babay!!!

Planning to spend sometime there and will definitely visit the stated AD.

I think its a good idea to try on the watch and get David to send to me.

Can't wait, let's just hope that me and my friends don't give Australian travellers a bad name after we're done I will keep you all posted if I have a big night and end up with a baby or tiger in my room!

Cheers gentlemen!
