Rolex Submariner with SERIOUS History

Hey All:

Just came across this item for sale on eBay; I have visited the Mel Fisher Museum in Key West and this watch has history AND patina...

Enjoy the info at the bottom of the listing.

Great story, but the watch is priced like it was part of the treasure. I wish them luck.

Interesting, but still...maybe worth a 40% mark up? Not that price, for sure.

That watch has been offered from time-to-time on eBay over the past year(s). Pricey for sure, but what history. Eventually someone will grab it up...

Too rich for my blood (which is what I'd be paying with). Likely real (pronounced "reel") but not necessarily so. There are just too many jerks when it comes to watch sales especially when large sum of money are concerned.

As already said, interesting buy well off in price. Value of the provenance? To me close to nothing. To someone else, maybe something/a lot??

Interesting, but leaves me cold. If they got millions out of it, why are they selling the watch?

Cool story, and a nice watch. Not close to worth the asking price IMO.

A very interesting post and neat story. Way over-priced, IMHO. I have a 2 Real piece from that wreck, bought in the late '70s. As it is actually a piece of treasure from the wreck, it must be worth a lot more than the $100ish I paid for it. LOL! I had a bud from SEAL Team 3 that I was in a SERE course with and he worked for that company in Key West in the late '80s. When we would go to KW for dive exs he took me aboard one of the salvage boats a couple of times to look around. They were also working or looking for another wreck from the same storm that sank the Atocha,IIRC.

I remember being fascinated when the mel fisher people came through my town and stopped at the mall showcasing gold and silver artifacts and recreations for sale. I bought some recreation silver ingot and thought it was the coolest (I was about 6, thus my mom was kind enough to buy it for me). Gave it away to my neighbors kids who thought it was cool about 10 years ago though.
