a few questions of the 16660 and let's see some ........

just "stumbled across" and bought a super mint, hardly worn, almost NOS, 16660 with all paint/ caseback sticker still on caseback. The watch is of course unpolished and complete with everything including original bracelet, tags, anchor, booklets and boxes. The original owner is still trying to find the certificate/calendar.
It has the Mk2 dial with dark patina on the dial, hands, and pearl.

I'll try to post pics when I have time.

Is one dial of the matte dial more rare than the other? Does anyone have any idea of how many were made???

Anyone with side profiles of the triple six compared to the 1665? I have looking for the perfect 1665 but now think that the triple six is a pretty cool watch after wearing it for a day.

The watch is really a great piece and probably undervalued currently......... anyone else have any thoughts about the
triple six>>>>>.

thanks for reading............

16660

I am traveling so therefore no pics but here are my thoughts:
I bought a matte Mark one circa 81 about three months ago the watch is a large beast that begins to feel very normal after a short period of time. The solid end links make the bracelet feel and look significant. I like viewing a matte dial through sapphire - kind of like looking at fine art through museum glass. I know they are very very hard to find. Pics on fri or sat!

thanks everyone

Thanks Russ. That's a beautiful SD. I just can't get enough of the 1680 though. After putting the SD on, it feels so huge, as compared to my red 1680s.

It is definitely a great watch that I'm adapting too.

I am now being referred to as Clay Jr. - I humbly accept that title - after all - Clay is primarily to blame for peeking my initial interest, and supporting the resulting pursuit of a 666 matte.

Clay, I never tire of looking at those shots. BTW, mine is a 7.4 serial.

Gents, some very addicting photos in this thread!

I'm sorry for the noob question, but what are the difference(s) between the MK I & II dials of the triple six The plots roughly look the same, the fonts, spacing, etc. Maybe I'm overlooking the obvious... has happened before

Thanks!

As for the changes between MK1 and MK2, well no wonder I didn't catch it... it's probably the most minor dial-change in the history of Rolex

On the other hand, the matt and gloss 666 might as well be two different Subs - the difference is that susbstantial. Those matt dials make all the difference...

Thanks again for sharing
