Forged Or Ceramic Diver
I'm suffering a small dilemma. I have a steel Offshore Diver. I love the watch, but I also love black watches. Scratch resistance is up there on my wish list also. I'll keep the steel diver, as I've buried myself in bracelets and straps and buckles. I've found a local Forged Carbon with orange accents. It's pre-owned but appears never worn. Yet when I look at the forged diver, I get mixed feelings. The ceramic offers scratch resistance, like the carbon. But what really sings on the ceramic is the display back of the ceramic diver, very cool. Is it worth waiting to find one? I rarely buy new at AD's. I'll let someone take the initial hit

Here's a quick pic of the display back on my ceramic diver. Just why would anyone want to hide that beautiful god rotor is beyond me :-)

The ceramic should prove more resilient in daily use I would say. I would go for this one over the carbon although in the short term I don't think you will find a ceramic one much below list, even used. |

I like the ceramic more than the FC. Don't like how the triangle on the FC looks funny with the yellow accent overlapping in a weird way.

I have the Stainless one, couldn't justify the price of the FC one.
However... If all three was the same price I would pick the FC one!

Ceramic is my choice. I tried in all three from the boutique in NYC. The carbon is very light. The ceramic is just right. Good luck, both are stellar watches!

Get the ceramic, doesn't seem to be any reason why you should buy the FC esp if it has orange accents, beware!

Ceramic only. The way it reflects light is unbelievable.

IMO, neither FC or Ceramic can match the SS in terms of looks. But for practicality and comfort, I would say the FC is nicer.

Both GREAT!
Touch call, definitely a PERSONAL decision. I'd probably go ceramic, but it would be a coin flip. |

Ceramic, I've seen from somewhere about an "Eroded" FC .. The case look like a chalk with broken edges .. I can't be sure of what had caused it but it seemed as real as it might happen to all FC cases..

I'm 100% FC all day, every day and twice on Sunday. Why? It's light, it's durable, I love yellow, I love the way that light brings out the patterns in the forged carbon and every watch case is unique. That said, the way that AP finishes ceramic is second to none; as with their metal cases, they've taken it to the next freakin' level. Pity then that I'm not a fan of the dull shade of orange that they chose to go with, or the open case back, which cancels out the antimagnetic qualities that made both the stainless steel and FC Divers ISO 6425-certified dive watches.
Love it! Regards, Adam |

Carbon for me too. I compared both side by side and found the ceramic too monotone. I think the marbled look of the FC case gives more contrast to the polished/brushed ceramic bezel and helps to give more depth to the watch. I also like that AP was the pioneer in using FC as a watch material.
I wouldn't worry about the durability. Mine has been my daily beater for 6 months and still looks new. The light weight of the FC also makes it a very comfortable watch. |

Do you like yellow or orange?
I went with FC b/c I liked the idea of having a carbon case and I really liked the yellow accents. The ceramic hadn't been released yet but I recently had a chance to try it at the NYC boutique and while I did think it was stunning, I am glad I went with the FC. I do not regret my choice. You can't go wrong with either one. Buy the one that smiles at you! Oh and I just did 9 dives with it going down almost 100 feet. Worked like a charm. I even adjusted the bezel before I went in the water to time my dives. I primarily used my dive computer but it was nice to look at the AP under water |
