Mt. Rainier

I took this shot of beautiful Mt. Rainier in Washington recently. I've seen this mountain a thousand times, but I can't ever remember it looking quite like this, nestled in the clouds like it is. Shot with a Canon SD700IS.

That's pretty nice there. I've flown over it a few times on my way up to BC and the view is spectacular.

Great pic! Recently had a chance to see Pike's Peak. Love those mountains.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I wish I was a pilot, but that shot was taken from an MD-80 on a flight from Seattle to Sacramento. I've taken that flight 17 times in the last year, and that's the most amazing the mountain has looked.

If anyone wants a higher res file for wallpaper, just give me the approximate pixel dimensions in a PM and I'll e-mail it to you.

John,

Nice shot dude. However, you should have gone with "While piloting my F-14 headed for the Pacific to shadow some pesky Russian bombers, I deftly flipped the jet and took this picture through the canopy with my trusty....."

In the lowe 48, I believe that is true. But Mt. McKinley, if memory serves, is the highest in the US.

I was going to say... that's one hell of a stepladder you got there. Another great photo-op is Mt. St. Helens. Pictures don't do it justice when it comes to realizing just how much of the top blew off in an instant. I used to camp every summer at Spirit Lake. Pretty astounding to see the difference now from the air. Great shot...

I went hiking and camping there in the '69 with my older brother. Simply awesome. Thank you for sharing this gorgeous wonder.

Wow. That is really spectacular. Great great shot JBat! Last time I was in Seattle I went hiking at Paradise and snapped a few. Harsh light, but still a great place to shoot.

Rainier checks in at 14,410 feet and is also considered to be an active volcano.

You're right, Pat. With last years little blow off, St Helen's was back in the news, and it was easy to forget how much of that mountain was just blown away in '80. There's some excellent hiking at both St Helen's and in Rainier Nat'l Park.

That's a great shot! That's my next goal, to get some shots of the mountain up close.

Do you guys have any shots of Mt Baker? I can see her from my fornt room, but sadly, no good pictures.
Again, she is classified as an active volcano. :(
