Rolex to Interview?

Hey Guys,

I have a job interview tomorrow and i am wondering if i should wear my Rolex to the interview.

Before you give your opinions let me give you a bit more background info to this scenario.

I am interviewing at a company that trades currency (FX) and it seems that owning a Rolex/nice watch goes part and parcel with most of the employees as if it is part of a uniform.

I am wondering should i go wearing my Rolex to show that i can fit in there and that i can relate to the employees there?

OR will wearing it not help me at all? Maybe the guy who is interviewing me will think I'm some kind of rich kid (25 years old)

Just to let you know the juicy bit...

The Rolex is a Subc 116610LN

Thanks,

Monaldo88

Probably not just yet. Wear another nice watch instead, probably one on leather, it's always pleasing to the eye at interviews. A rolex, especially the SubC date may be a tad too 'bright'

I don't think it matters what watch you wear to an interview as long as it's nothing loud and brightly colored. Now sure how you wearing a watch would have any bearing on whether you fit in as a potential employee of the company. Think about it, if this company made decisions based on the watch a candidate was wearing, would you really want to work there? My guess is they are trying to located a person who has the skills they are looking for. If this is your first job in financial services/financial industry, you will soon find out that every tom, dick and harry has a rolex. Good luck.

first, good luck with the interview.

i'm not sure what you mean by "show" the watch? are you going to stick your fist up in the air and point to your wrist?

it's just a watch....if it will be distracting to *you* to wear it, then don't.

Best of luck with the interview. Go without a watch. They will employ you based on your credentials.

Wear the watch and let us know what happens.

Wear the rolex if it's you and you feel comfortable wearing it.

Cru gave the best advice I think. If it is going to bother or bug you during the interview then don't wear it.

I have sat on interview panels. The answers, the eye contact, the overall energy, real (not attempted confidence) and sincerity is what separated some from others. Some candidates looked so great on paper we could not wait to interview them and they disappointed. Others shown.

Go in their with the attitude "I will smoke this interview." You will. The watch you have on won't matter.

You will smoke the interview.

Interviews are about seeing how much confidence you have and whether you are right fit for the job or not. You can tape 10 Deepseas to your forehead and it will do you no good if you do not display confidence. So it does not matter what watch you wear. You are trying to impress them with yout knowledge, will and determination, not your wealth,

No because everyone is watching, you know they are!

I am now retired but I must have interviewed at least 150 people, mainly for middle management jobs.

I wear an Explorer1 and from that you may deduce that I am a boring old man who is probably the total opposite of you.

However I expect young men of 25 to be energetic and go getting and I do not expect them to have the same fashion taste as me.

If I saw you wearing a Rolex, it would not bother me in the least, so my recommendation is to wear it.

No sane interviewer in the city is going to turn you down because of a watch.

Regards

Mick

Wear it as 'normal' and don't even think about it. Forget the watch and get ready for the interview - good luck!

Focus on the interview, wear whatever you'd normally wear to an office setting.

I'd wear it.

Wear it and show how smart you are. (I would not put it on top of my shirt sleeve).

Good Luck.

Wear it, but let yourself shine through.

Who knows, it might get complimented - has happened to me

Do people actually think that others either notice that much or even care?

Wear a Patek. Nobody noticed them.

Jokes aside. Wear the watch. Else you may be late.

Wearing or not wearing a Rolex probably will not get you a job or disqualify you from a job. Even at Patek Philippe some employees wear Rolex.

And if it does disqualify you from getting the job you probably don't want to work with a bunch of d-bags anyway.

Ask yourself this are they interviewing you or a blinging watch if they are interviewing you I am sure they will not care or even notice you was wearing any watch.Myself have always interviewed the person for what that person could add to my company and not a bloody watch. And wearing a Rolex does not make you a better employable person than one that does not wear any watch.Putting on a Rolex does not exalt anyone to a higher status a Rolex its just a wristwatch nothing more.

In that environment, wear it. I don't see how that could be taken in a bad way. I'd be more concerned about how prepared I am. Best of luck.

Allowing your watch to peek out of a shirt sleeve or jacket is classy.

just wear it....when i interviewed people for new positions i actually looked at the timepiece on their wrist and had more than 1 great conversation about watches. sometimes it's a great ice-breaker.

best of luck with the interview.

It's only one day, so why not just focus on dressing well and leave the watch at home?

Yes. People will notice. And an astute interviewer will see every detail.

It depends what you want to present. But more importantly it depends on how you present.

If you act as a spoiled rich kid, the rolex will lend to that.

If you act mature and well put together, it will show you've got your act together at a young age. That seems like a good thing to me.

But as Cru said, if it distracts you, it won't help the interview.

Let us know what you decide and how it goes.
