Can these two Royal Oaks co-exist?

The Jumbo 15202 vs the RO 15400. In the same collection that is. I ever thought about flipping my 15400 for the Jumbo since the theory goes that the Jumbo is a more authentic and superior version of the two ROs and keeping the 15400 after acquiring the Jumbo will be redandunt. But now having compared them many times, I think they are actually rather different. The 15400 is probably concieved as a beefier and sportier version of the original RO while the Jumbo with its thin profile and elegant looks is considerably dressier. While arguable, I also think the 15400 has a newer / more advance movement and a more robust case design.

So I think they can complement each other. Or am I off track? So what are your thoughts?

They are quite similar indeed (more than, for instance, the 5167 and 5711 when it comes to Patek...I say that because of the same type of threads we've seen on the PP forum and in which I usually say that they can co-exist), the size and thickness may be different but the overall design is pretty much the same. However, I still do think that in a collection they could be next to each other and fit very well because of some small differences and, mostly, because they are both pretty different models historically and even within the very brand that produces them.

If I had to sell one it would probably be the 15400 but I still think you can keep both without having a very redundant duo.

Different size, different dial, different movement. Why wouldn't they coexist? Not to go too much off-topic, but many guys have a black and a green Sub-C as well, or a Sub ND and a Sub Date. If those very similar pairs can find their places in a collection, then a 15202 and a 15400 should do as well.

I believe they CAN co-exist, since both of them wear very differently due to different case size, width, height, and therefore wrist presence. With a 15202 in blue dial, 15400 in white and your Diver ROO in black dial, you will have a perfect RO trio!

I think they can, but in a lot of ways would be like owning both a black and green sub.

I recall in my younger days having two girlfriends... Both very different yet equally attractive. Didn't work out so well.

It'd be kind of like owning a Sub and a SubC, which people do, but at least you have different dial colors. Personally, I'd keep one and flip the other the provide more variety in my collection.

I bought the 15400 first. Once I got the Jumbo I didn't wear the 15400 so I moved it. I don't have any regrets. Both great watches though.

if one's collection/watch budget is large enough, sure, why not, but, these wouldn't be my only two watches.

Keep both, as different watches as between Submariner 1680 and Submariner 116610. IMHO.

Cool picture. I personally wouldn't hold on to both as they are too similar in my mind and would replace one with a diver or something else. Best.

I agree the 400 is more modern and more muscular, as I like my APs, and the silver dial is unique and striking, so I would suggest trading the Jumbo for a blue Nautilus, that would be the combo for me.

Thanks for all your insights. Just to clarify, I have not got the Jumbo yet. The Jumbo in the pic above belongs to my friend. I am thinking now of buying the Jumbo while still keeping the 15400.

I'm all for variety between brands, dial colors and functions. These are very similar watches and for "my collection" would be too close in style to one another. Give the 15202 some more thought and if it's the one that speaks to you, flip the 15400 for it and use the extra cash in the watch fund for another watch.

The 15202 is the AP to have IMO. Infact, its the only AP I would ever consider.

Personally I need more variety in my collection but I think they would absolutely work together. The 15202 is so thin that I used mine mostly as a piece with dress or long sleeved sport shirts, as it shrunk a bit with short sleeves. The 15400 fixes that issue or at least would for me. Together, if you are content with that look only I think they complement each other well.

I would say yes. Different dial color is enough to justify

One 15300 is the best compromise, a bit chunkier then the jumbo and a bit sleekier then the 15400...
