Ghosts
Many years ago I bought a 100 year old farm house outside of Columbus, Ohio. We had stopped by to see how long it would be before we could begin moving into the house. When I asked if they had gotten their stuff out of the attic, the lady emphatically stated that they had NEVER been up there. I thought her answer was a little extreme so I jokingly asked if they were afraid of ghosts. The lady's face went white and she went on to mention that their 9 year old daughter claimed to hear a little girl crying at night from time to time. On occasion she said that the little girl would come to her room and talk to her. I laughed at the notion of ghosts and we moved into the house a few days later.
Not long after moving in one of our dogs was very ill and I was sleeping on the sofa so I could keep an eye on it. Sometime around three in the morning I was awakened by a loud noise. As I sat up I realized the sound was coming from the two pantry doors just across the room in the adjoining kitchen. I jumped up assuming that the dog was the cause and went over to see what it was doing. As I approached I could physically see the doors rattling back and forth as if something was inside the pantry trying to get out. As soon as I reached the doors they stopped moving. I turned and immediately noticed that the dog was fast asleep next to the sofa. I turned on the light and opened the pantry doors but could see nothing to explain the door movement so I went back to the sofa and eventually fell asleep. The next day I was driving my 16 year old son to school and thought he would get a kick out of my ghostly experience. Instead of giving me a hard time he mentioned that he had his own experience a couple of weeks earlier but didn't want to bring it up because he thought people would laugh at him. He was getting ready to go to bed one night and was at the foot of his bed. As he pulled his shirt over his head, he said that the lampshade on the lamp next to the headboard flew across the room and hit the wall. Another time was home alone and when he went upstairs to his room and turned on the light the lightbulb blew. So he went and turned on the lamp and it blew. He turned on the closet light and it too blew. (Fast forward seven years later) I went to visit my son in Bremerton, WA after his submarine returned from deployment. He, I and his new girlfriend were at dinner and I asked if he had ever told his girlfriend about our ghost stories. Again, instead of a light-hearted response, he got a very serious look on his face before answering my question. He went on to tell us about the most significant experience he had in the old farmhouse. He said that he was getting cleaned up to go out on a date and was getting dressed after getting out of the shower. He said it was dark out and he had the light on in the room. As he was facing the window on the opposite side of the room he saw his reflection in the glass. Something else then caught his eye as he realized that there was a figure of a women standing behind him. He said her arm was reaching out to touch his shoulder. He said he then bolted from the room as fast as possible. Only a few days later, he and I left the house for good - the result of a split between me and my then wife. My son told me that he was never so relieved to leave that "damned" house. Anybody else have any unexplained encounters? ![]()

I read your story and it sent chill running down my spine.
We used to live in Manila, Philippines. Right after our family migrated over to Canada back in 1986, we left our home to the care of our family housekeeper. My parents usually call her to get updates and one of the experiences that she had was one day when she was in the house, the telephone rang. She answered it and this eery voice (deep) and said "Get out of my house". She was scared to death. She's already to begin with a superstitious person - there are a lot of those supernatural stories in Manila. Another story involving our old home... when our cousins went back to Manila to visit it after leaving it 30 years earlier, they stayed at my parents home. One day my cousin was passing by the room of my sister's and she heard a voice of lady singing a lullaby. She opened the door thinking it was my sister and nobody was there. Not as eery as Ohsixx's but that's my story.

I grew up in a small farmhouse of about 150 years of age. There were fireplaces at each end and if you went down into the cellar, the foundation of those chimney's had a space built into them. The builder who had restored the house said it was for any spirits there and that the home's owner would put a chair and book in this space...give the ghost something to read I guess.
Well anyway, there were 2 bedrooms on the top floor and my bedroom door was right at the top of the stairs. As is the case with most old stairs, they creaked and each step made it's own distinct noise. I was home alone in my room one night and I hear someone slowly coming up the stairs. Step by step, each one made their own distinct noise. My hair stood up, there was NO doubt in my mind that somone was coming up those stairs. I put down my homework and tip toed over to the door clutching a baseball bat. The last step hit the top of the stairs...followed by a second one...just like 2 feet stopping at the top of the stairs. I was crapping my pants but I flung the door open and pulled back the bat to let whoever was on the other side of that door have it....and as I am sure you can guess....no one was there. I have never experienced anything like it before or since. I don't believe in ghosts...but I made sure the home I bought as an adult was new construction ![]() |

Anyone of those experiences would have been too much for me. Did you ever look in the attic?
Time to call scooby doo Sean

We lived in an old plantation house on Oahu, place called Kunia Camp. Odd things happened in that house. My sister saw someone with red shoes walking in one of our bedroom. I saw a crucifix on the wall move. The bottom of the cross would flip up, then down, then up, then down. My parents saw things too but never told us until we were adults.
